Wow, looks like murphy showed up after everyone complemented you on how fast the build was going Sorry about that man. From the looks of it, you will put your killer skills to work at lightning pace and bang this 'one of a kind' pit out in style! Looking forward to seeing the finished product. Nice looking hinges! _________________ Dave - Boston

See, I knew this attack was coming Its hard for Kevin to keep his phone conversations quiet Im just shocked that he didnt reply right after you Chris, he must have been on an Old Mil kicker I really could have done a "k.a.m. style" door pretty easily though...I already have the hardest part of that design on hand. |
Attack...Attack... that was just meant as a constructive observation, both for you and for any others that have the door spring on them, and then find that it, (the door), intends to stay sprung forever!
Some times you have to listen to Wreckless listening to k.a.m. | Quote: | | Like Mike say's "sometimes you gotta ignore Kevin" |
Please note the sometimes, but I know you have noted that part, as you did call him!
Though that sometimes in Mike's quote, also means that sometimes you shouldn't ignore Kevin! _________________ Here's a change Robert.

Square door it is
Started off with a piece off 1x1 11ga tube and ran across the front of the opening. Did a 1x1 tube frame work for the front, made sitting the 1/4 plate in place a lot easier.
Had a piece of 1/4 x 3 laying around so used it and brought the back up just a touch, gives a nicer opening on the front.
Everything tacked in place, measured and remeasured.
Just another view of all tacked in place ready for final weld.
Welded out, sanded and ready for doors.
Backside.
1st door cut and installed and 2nd door just tacked on. Want to get a phone call from Kevin fast...text him a pic of a problem build with a strap wrapped around it Youd be surprised how fast your phone lights up
Both doors on.
Firebox side.
1 door
2 door
Im extremely pleased with how it turned out. Cooker was supposed to be at the sandblasters tomorrow so I could pick it up Wednesday, get it painted, cured and delivered by Saturday. Gonna have to call in a favor hopefully with the sandblaster to do a quickie job on it towards the end of the week. Found out tonight that my delivery can be Sunday with no problems, so its going to be a busy week, but I have an extra day now, so Im hoping for the best!

GF, thanks man, Im liking it so far! No biggie on the grips, was needing new mower blades anyways
Logtrucker, Thank you for the kind words and following the build
Ernie, careful what your saying, after this ordeal, I could probably put 1 or 20 down pretty easy
ChuckThank you very much, I dont know about the square doors yet man, jury is still out on what the next build will look like
Mike, Thanks Brother! That is still one of our best phone conversations to date
1krazykooker, Thank you for following the build, lets not brag on Murphy being gone just yet, the darned thing isnt out of my garage just yet _________________ X2 Finished Build

Sorry bro for not stopping in as often on this one but then, there wasn't that much time. Not only Wreckless style door but you are making my builds look like they took forever, you know...Kevin speed. That was PDQ, right on, looks great. It does seem like you spent a bit too much time with the ignoring Kevin thing tho, the quote states " Sometimes you gotta ignore..." not... " Ignore kevin until you damn near kill yourself" FWIW...the stacks look a bit short. Nice pit! _________________ Backyarder

Troy, she is coming together nicely my Friend. I am glad you got her worked out. I look forward to seeing some more pics and updates.
Mike, you cant see the stacks because they are retracted. Its a new twist on exhausts when they come up they have neon lights with Old Milwaukee signs on them, my idea of course. _________________ Always remember slow and steady wins the race.

Hokey smokes, Ya'll designed and built A STEALTH SMOKER?? Wow! Impressive! But what depths has Troy sunk to, to need to sneak into parties with his cooker? I may need the design. _________________ Backyarder

Paul, the square doors are growing on my quickly, maybe another set in the future
Mike, Thanks Bro You know you have been in the same boat before...do I listen to Kevin...does he really know what he's talking about on this one The only bad part of all that thinking was when the "I told you so" phone call came through
Kevin, thanks my friend And thanks for helping out on this cluster bomb! I gave the stacks some thought, but the Old Mil just wasnt too appealing
Mike, the whole "have cooker, will travel" isnt working to well anymore for party invites, so Stealth mode is sometimes needed to get past the bouncers at the door
Denny, Thanks Brother!
My Man Chuck, thanks for taking a look bro. Its been a quick build...for me anyways Havent heard much out of you in a while, you must have found new friends now since your a member of the Porcelain UDS club Or working your a$$ off to pay for it _________________ X2 Finished Build
