Nice job on the how to, that is sure to help some folks out. Better job on the food. Nice smokey deliciousness right there. _________________ Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results.

zski - Thanks very much, the chickens were good and the abts even better,
Tim_Abrahamson - Thanks for looking. I don't know that it is worthy of a sticky but might help someone get started. Hope you and your Dad are ok after cracking the egg. Tom _________________ Klose Mobile

My egg is still in pieces... too sad to deal with it atm...
I think it warrants a sticky because there is no lighter fluid involved. It reminds me of a comp I attended last spring where an unnamed team was lighting their pit with a bag of Matchlight. Not sure if they had any walks but I could smell the difference right away. I know Myron loves to use the fluid but something about his water cooker seems impervious to the affects. I used it once on my stick burner to see if it made a difference and I could taste it up to 3 cooks later... I'll pass. _________________ BBQ is like sex...

For those of you that don't have a gas burner for your charcoal chimney starter, you can use wax fire starters that are normally designed for fireplaces. I actually cut up a paper log (like one at this link) that are used for fireplaces and use those as fire starters in my fireplace (they are cheaper and work the same). I have found that wadded up newspaper just doesn't last long enough after you light it. I would think you could use wax fire starters to directly start a wood fire in your fire box as well.
If your not familiar with them, they are made of hardwood sawdust and nontoxic wax.

Stickys need lots of views or lots of comments, as well as lots of good information.
We already have good information on the thread we just need lots of views and lots of posts.
Those that are alive on their own, (JAllens, or k.a.m.s cooker build) don't really need to be sticky's as they stay at the top on their own. _________________ Here's a change Robert.

Tim_Abrahamson - I'm with you on the lighter fluid / charcoal starter / match light, and I am sure most of the ringers are as well.
GeorgeH - I'm sure the wax starter would work well with the charcoal chimney Probably the newpaper log would as well. I have used newspaper for charcoal in the past and you have to pack it pretty tight for it to last long enough. Thanks for looking.
SoEzzy - I'm not looking for it to be a sticky at all. Just trying to help someone trying to get started. Thanks again for all you do. Don't know how you have enough time to do it all. Tom _________________ Klose Mobile

If you want your newspaper to last long enough to light your charcoal just spritz it with veggi oil (I even spray a paper towel or two with Pam also) the paper acts like a wick for the oil and burns plenty long enough to get those coals nice and hot. _________________ BBQ is like sex...
