Got a brisket waiting in the fridge for tommorow. Looking to see what rub I should try first. I can't decide I like em all!!
Been using all 3 rubs on grilled chicken and really like all three rubs. The wife loves the sauce , she ate it on everything so no more left. Looks like I need to order more.

In the House has no sugar and is my favorite for longer cooks like Brisket. Original and HOH both have some sugar which I just really try to reduce on long cooks. I do add a little black pepper or chipotle flakes to the In the House for just a touch more pepper.

"C'mon man"!...

Using another mans rub is tantamount to using his bar of soap.

Brisket needs little more than salt, pepper and a little mustard to hold it all together.

If need be...make up your own. Most rubs are basically the same macro ingredients, proportions may differ to make them sweeter/saltier/spicer...but it's nothing you can't do yourself, AND for alot less money per serving.

Let the smoke, and your BBQ accumen do the rest!

I dont see anywhere in the OP about any suggestions for making his own rub. Im pretty sure it clearly states that he's asking about whats everyones favorite Big Ron's rub on brisket...read the title...strangely enough, that gives it away Wink

Go with Hint Of Houston...you wont be sorry you did Very Happy Let us know how it turns out, pics included of course!

Yep here is another one of those Strange belittling posts. The OP asked about Ron's Rubs not your take on what you think the world should do. Give it a rest. First its knives and now your dogging rubs. Rolling Eyes I guess you get flabbergasted when someone mentions getting their oil changed by a reputable service company.

I use Big Ron's Hint of Houston on my briskets. I also use it on one of my jerky flavors, and it's become quiet popular in my jerky business. I don't think I could ever come up with anything better, so why not use the best: Big Ron's. I add one dash of salt, so I can claim that I mix my own!!!!! Isn't that what most do anyway? Laughing

That's funny...I don't remember "dogging" any specific rub...lets' look...nope.

And the oil change analogy?...Really??

I tend to use "In The House" for all of my beef applications although "Hint of Houston tastes good on just about anything.

Well decided to let the wife decide, she picked HOH. The next brisket will be ITH.

To the poster that commented about making my own rub, the last five or so briskets that I have done have been s and p only, good but got bored with it. I have heard nothing but rave reviews about Big Rons, and the reviews were right. I have no problem using another mans rub(sounds weird saying out loud lol). I say give it a shot, spend a few bucks and get you some.

I will try to get pics up of the cook.

Thanks

Maybe you should look at the delivery of your information. Do you enjoy coming across like that? Also might want to work on your reading comprehension because I don't think he meant you were "dogging" the rub, but you were most certainly "dogging" the people who use the rub which really isn't much better. You stick up for chain restaurants but don't mind dogging people???

Hey use whatever works for you...never said not too, just another suggestion.

At least you caught some of the humour...

Good luck!

Trust me I am completely relaxed. Looks like maybe you are the one who needs to sit back and relax...seems every post you make is trash talking and trying to make yourself shine in your knowledge, or as most of us think, lack of.

So, maybe take up on a little of your own advice...Relax...it'll be O----K.

Another thing about Big Ron's Rub. If you buy it in bulk like I do....it's really a good deal. I have a sample of In The House. Which would y'all use for chicken? In The House maybe? Question

Carolina0341, I have to agree on HOH, although ALL of Big Rons rubs are good, that happens to be my favorite. Very Happy

I'm not going to comment on the strange and dopey reply you got before. Rolling Eyes

Not too much to comprehend...but hey...it's all good.

As much fun as this has been...gotta go drink a "Summer Shandy" and IR check 1 cooker and 113lbs of butt!

Adieu!

you seriously suck at quoting. But apparently I made a mistake. <---- see it's not that hard to admit maybe you shouldn't have posted something. Rolling Eyes

I think the point k.a.m. was getting to with the "oil change" is the same thing you were attempting to do with the post you made in the knife sharpening thread...

Dr. Strangelove wrote on another thread:

What does any of this have to do with knife sharpening? About the same amount as it has to do with oil changing. Nothing, but you use an "analogy" and its okay, someone else does and its wrong..."Really??"
