my first larger vending event...last year sold out early...this year, did25% less meat, and was undercut by the stinkin' boy scouts on drinks....50 frickin cents for a drink.
i tried to explain basic economics, and even told her that they were being considered bad vendors.....
oh well....what i did notice were the crowds were thin, noone had a good day, except the gate at 3 dollars a head...
...and as i was going by the boyscout tent, they were all arguing about how much food they had left, and how much money they lost.....cj |

Sorry for your lack of profits. The vending events we attend, which are sponsored by non-profits (Chambers etc) and not Promoters, do not allow duplication of product. If you are selling water, no one else can etc.
We should be thankful that there are Volunteer Leaders for Scouting, which helps build character in our young men so that they become contributors to society instead of users of society. Next time you see a group of Scouts raising money stop and introduce yourself and interact with them - you might discover they are not "stinkin Boy Scouts", but rather tomorrows future leaders.

I had a very similar incident with the "little granny next door"...no ins, no license, no 3 bay sink,no sanitation, no inspector..just a little gas grill her husband was running [ btw, he bought a brisket sammich from me and loved it]. She was thrilled to break even on her purchases on day 1, was selling high quality large burgers and brats for less than mcshizzle!! She ran out of buns [ I had TONS] asked to buy some off me - I told her I would sell them at my cost - she complained she could get buns cheaper in town! I had quality hard rolls, she has for shizzle cheapo's..I held out and she did buy while complaining..Her sales died day 2 and mine took off late in the day....I ended up losing $300.00 on the weekend I'll go back next year, and invite my inspector to inspect my setup
I STRONGLY disagree with only 1 vender selling water / drinks....it is key to keeping people in line - why would anyone wait in one line for a sammie to then have to get in another line to get a drink where a sammie of some other kind is available - they often just get whats available with a drink. I did an event with that rule ONCE, never again!
I too was a scout leader for a few years - teaching the boy's to cut the competitions nutz off was never a lesson I taught! Also, if they were audibly arguing at the event about money, they have a long way to go, and need another LEADER. _________________ Money Maker

That was an example of the type vending events we attend and it certainly is not for all vendors.

Thank you for your time as a Scout Volunteer.
Nor would that be a lesson most of us would teach. In fact most people would gladly pay more for drinks from a non-profit such as a Scout troop.
A point to be made is they are not stinking Boy Scouts. |

| i fully support the boy scouts, i was being flippant with that term, and meant only to rant....that said, they were being inconsiderate, and quite frankly, not being good stewards with their resources....and they had a pretentious attitude, not really consistant with their motto...just my humble opinion ....cj |

We also have seen a drop in attendance at some of our events, but not quite as drastic as yours.
The last event we attended July 7th was off a little, but what was amazing is that the number of vendors substantially increased to 66 versus the normal 40 to 45. It is a small town of 186 people and a tourist area http://www.friocanyonchamber.com/ |
