We've tried them all being Sysco, Ben E. Keith etc.

The best, as far as quality and excellent service is LaBatt Food Service. They deliver to our area daily. Being you are in SA drop by their location and visit with them. And give us an update somewhere down the road as to who you choose, satisfaction etc.

LaBatt is good, but they seem to be more interested in the institutional market from my experience. Also they wanted $500 min order to send a truck. (not sure what they do for "in" SA)

90% of my meat comes from US Foods, with the rest comming from Jakes (out of H town).

Ben E Keith sells me whole chickens. They send prices on the rest but are not competitive.

The thing about the big suppliers is that they all have the same stuff for the most part. I don't mean cuts, I mean brands. BEK sells Tyson chicken, so does LaBatt.

Unless you are doing CAB or a "special" label( Niman Ranch, Herford beef, or the like) the beef is gonna be IBP/Cargill for the most part.

At that point price and service mean everything.

Oh there is also that they buy from each other. Not necessarily meat, but they do. I used a company called Euro Mid for import items at an Italian place I worked. Got shorted an item once so I ordered it from one of my other vendors. It was Euro Mid product with the other guys sticker on it.

Similar is that Restaurant Depot buys produce from the same guys I buy from. (they then sell it for less but that is another topic)

Our Labatt salesman piggy backs a less $500 for us on another customer to get what we want.

We 100% agree with your other comments.
