Where can I buy a whole pig?

I live in New England and am trying to find a butcher that will ship a whole pig to me. Any ideas?

Why don't you try a local grocery store meat department, isn't Shaws a large chain by you? You may need to give them a notice of a week or two, and place a deposit for them to get it for you.

Or, if this is not for a commercial event, try a local 4H club

Maybe more of question than an answer, but don't you have some local small meat processors in your area? You might want to check with them. We always used the same one in our area for years, used them to sell/purchase excess cuts we did not need for home stock. They usually will also have a lead on other customers that may have stock available for slaughter for your use....but my experience here goes back over 25 years. So I may be way off base.

I am on Cape Cod in a rural area. No great butcher shops here and when i have asked in the local super market about getting a whole pig, they look at me like I am crazy.

Well quite frankly in your area did you expect there to be any?...google Mass meat processors and find one that is close.
