Hello All,

I am in thoughts about buying a trailer smoker and trying out vending. I want to start out small and by small I mean like a small 1st annual music fest that should only have about 100 or 200 people going . I had some basic questions that I am wondering about. What kind of insurance/license/food handlers/permits must I have. I know this may vary per state/county. Any and all info would be great and appreciated! Thank you for your time!

Step 1: Contact the Health department.

or:

Step 1: Buy a trailer.
Step 2: Have to sell it on eBay cause it doesn't have the right water tanks, sinks, etc. to meet Health codes for your region. Some parts of the country have extremely strict requirements, like NSF-approved smokers only, etc.

Best of luck to you, and by the way if you add at your state and maybe city to your Profile, folks can give region-appropriate advice. Smile

+1 with feldon.
as far as insurance most events want 500K-1M liability.Shop around and keep your projected sales numbers low for the insurance people to keep your rates low.

You could get a temp permit from the HD for the event. They will advise on what they require and will inspect in the morning prior to cooking. All food will need to be cooked on site or a legal kitchen.

I will defer on insurance as I have discussed that way to much Smile

Do you like what you have?or are you willing to give it all to someone else?
every real event I have seen asks for insurance.

I have my doubts. Call your agent. That's the best advice that I can give you.
All of my insurance, business and personal, are through Farmer's.
I don't know if they will issue a short term policy or not. I bump mine up as required for an event for a few days, BUT, I already have a policy.

Most home/auto insure companies don't do commerical liability Also take to you agent for a ref.You get a better rate at six months, mine is under 250.00 for six months. Some events have insurcance that you can buy from them.check the event and see if they even require it.If they don't then it's up to you on weather to get it for a one time trial,I would, but this is a sue you country.
