I have been wanting to buy some butts lately, but have been holding off.

The more people I talk to, the more we need.

The local butcher will even grind them up for free ( for my sausage making! )

Right now I know of at least 8 people interested in a two pack. Some more than one pack each.

So my question is... The average number of butts per case is 8 right (4 two-packs)?

And what is a good price? I can get Swift brand (not enhanced) for $1.79/lb normal and $1.62/lb by the case.
Maybe less for multiple cases.

Comments? Criticism? Jealousy? Fun-making?

Cash and Carry in Seattle has two-packs of boneless butts for around $1.54/lb.

The packs average 15- 17lbs. Not sure how many are in a case, though. One pack is usually enough for me. But they told me that they don't even bother to mark the individual packs because they sell so many cases.

$1.47/lb by the case at Sam's
Approx 64# - 8 butts per case, although I have seen 10 - 7 pounders.

Swift likes to pack 10 small butts per case. I'm not a fan of their product.

last case I bought from resturant depo was 1.39 per pound for bone in butts which I thought was high. I do like the fact that they have the twin packs in a open freezer are so you can make your own cases up of butts close to the same size. The discount kicks in once you have met the minimum weight requirement.

Yeah, you're telling me. I remember not too long ago getting them for .89/lb at a local store that is closed now. Sad

By the case here....Hormel bone in butts, 10 to a case, cryo vac packed seperatly. No two packs, no average weight, mixed in size. Price per pound $ 1.59, my grocer usually will give me .10-.20. cents off per lb depending on how many cases I buy.
So yeah...... Buy in bulk. Very Happy

You can always freeze them. The cryo packs do very well. Just takes time to thaw.
