I just picked up one of the CG's and am going to cook something on it this weekend. All good reports coming from everyone that has one. What temp did it hold according to the factory guage? Some of what I have read is that it likes to ride 250 to 275... Have you done any mods to it yet?
thanks,

I got things to settle in between 225 and 250 during the cook according to the grill guage.

I have not done any mods to it as of yet though I think the bottom air vent could stand to be sealed up a little better.

Roxy -

Great cook! That bacon move...that's hall of fame material right there.

Currious on your thoughts on the CG. I looked at a floor demo version at a Lowes and thought it was very loose/flimsy, but who knows who the 16 year old punk was that put it together and how many fasteners he tossed in the process. I'm debating the CG or getting a Large BGE to replace my Webber OTG (and the possible divorce that would come with such a large Q investment Rolling Eyes ).

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

I put mine together with a nut driver as they suggested and I think it is rather solid. I make sure all the bolts are rock solid. There are a few bolts to it so if they are all loose I could see it being shakey.

Dont get me wrong.. I would love to have been able to "wish" for a BGE.. But that would never happen with them being over 1500 bucks. I will say it is easy to move around my yard as I think it is like 100 lbs lighter than the egg.. I am not certain on the weight differences so dont rip me a new one.. and so far seems to cook well. Tonight we will see how it works real hot for some zaa.

I got some sausage and bacon with some apple wood on low and slow right now for pizza night..

I read some review that said the installed temp gauge is WAY off. I can't remember where I saw it, but it was like 75 degrees off (from the grill top that is).

Put a Tel-Tru in there and looks like a winner!

Thanks for the reply back roxy. I have read quite a bit on the bretheren and sounds like a pretty solid unit especially for the money. Got some good ideas on doing some mods to the bottom vent but will probably do a practice run to season the cast iron at hight heat and then try to run it low.

By the way, the smokin pro is an awesome smoker.. You got to make a mod or two but I have cooked up a lot of delicious BBQ on it.

ProBBQ is a WSM with the mods they should have made years ago.

I didn't buy the smokin pro, WSM or AKORN.. My darlin wife bought all 3 for me..
