| Hello all, I will be picking up my smoker this weekend and will immediately begin cooking butts for a couple of fundraisers. In the near future I want to begin selling pulled pork at local events. Can someone direct me to a link here on the site or be so kind as to give me information about satisfying uncle sam? I would appreciate it. |

You would probable be best served by visiting your states government website, you will most likely need a state issued sellers permit, a FEIN (Federal Employers Identification Number), Before this you should also decide if you want to be a DBA, LLC, LLP, S-Corp. C-Corp, Etc. Get your incorporation papers done, then register your business with the state, submit a plan to your local health department, the list of items needed is a lengthy one, and going over to www.SBA.Gov would be a good starting point.
Oh, and good luck too. _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

| Thanks for the information. Sounds like a lot of paperwork just to sell a few butts but I am trying to do things the right way. I will be sure to post my progress. |

Selling food to the general public is a highly regulated industry for obvious reasons. Plus the govt. wants to make sure that they can collect taxes from those sales, and your annual corporation filing fee which your state will charge, your catering/restaurant license fee's, etc etc etc.
It would probably be easier to open a combination nudie-bar/indoor pistol sales and shooting range right next to an elementary school. _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

lnade10 Harry has given you good advise. If you get lost along the way, try to have a good relationship with your local Health Department Inspector as they can make sure you are within state and county regulations. It's a lot of paperwork and it's a pain but it's also what helps to keep some of the rif-raf out imhyao. If the HDI doesn't have the forms or info you need they can typically point you in the right direction. You've started off on a good fit by reading the Smokering. Good Luck! _________________ UDS

I deal with fireworks and bbq....
ATF or local food regs- I'd rather deal with the ATF any day. _________________ FNG Smoker |

| I appreciate the replys and will keep you informed. I picked up my smoker yesterday. It barely fit in the garage. I have been so busy today I have not had a chance to mess around with it. |
