We donate a ton of time to a variety of charities every year, with our biggest event being Toys For Tots in December that benefits local elementary school kids that wouldn't otherwise get a Christmas.
One of the administrators from one of the beneficiary schools contacted me earlier this month for a retirement party for an outgoing principal.
They wanted beef, pork, and chicken along with sides and servers.
On a $5.00 per person budget, and the teachers were paying for their own lunch.
I offered pulled pork sammies (their original request) chicken for the non pork eaters, and sides and requested volunteers to help serve (same as TFT).
Yesterday I get a e-mail from another contact name, wanting a quote for the same party, then hear back from the original request that they gave the job to another company (at least they let me know).
Professional educators that communicate that well makes me wonder, or perhaps they enlisted a string of help to kick tires everywhere in town.
Clearly if I owned a brick and mortar I could have given the food away at cost for cheaper.
Wonder what they are getting? _________________ BBQMAN

Being educated guests (teachers in this case), it wouldn't take much to know what kind of meal/service (probably drop off) the would get for $5.00 vs $10.00 and up.
Actually, I take that back...you wouldn't even have to b educated. Simple common sense should come into play here. _________________ Where rumors end and legend lives forever... |

Odd thing is that I find that the lower the bids, the more demanding the client usually is and the more unrealistic their expectations of the kinds of service you can give at their price.
When I get a budget of $5 per person or less to work with, I start by trying to let them know that they are looking at a bare bones event and usually refer them to Sonny's for the lowest cost alternative for a drop off event. _________________ I likes to eat 'da pig!
