Dont know if they are sold in stores as I dont live in the USA but IMHO Head Country and Sa-mokin BBQ sauce are the two best sauces I didnt make myself.

I agree with most of the posters here, The major brands are a bit of a disappointment overall. I also agree with most folks saying Sweet Baby Ray's, as it is one of my favorites. Right now, my sauce of choice is Head Country Original flavor. I only seem to find it at my local Wal-Mart. I doctor up the sweet Baby Ray's with apple juice for my friends. They love it. The Head Country is good pretty much as it sits, good smack of vinegar and sugar. If anything, I'd sieve it to get the chunks of onion out for a smooth finish.

Not a huge fan of sweet sauces.. Stubbs is becoming pretty popular on store shelves around here and I like Original and Spicy.

KC Masterpiece... always have liked it...

Blues Hog Original is pretty danged good too... but it's really thick and sweet.

My current favorite is Big Bob Gibson's Original Red for everything.
My other second favorites are Garland Jack's Secret Six for ribs, Viper Sauce Original for ribs, and Open Pit($0.98 @ Walmart) for beef. I also like Stubbs Original, but haven't been impressed with any of their other flavors.

I used to mix Open Pit and KC Masterpiece. It was good. Now I got lazy and just grab a jar of Sweet baby Janes.

Roadhouse Original Sweet/Smokey would probably be the best store bought imo but my go to when not making my own is usually Sweet Baby Rays. X2 on doctoring it with some apple cider or juice.

Pig Stand or Jack Miller sauce from Ville Platte, Louisiana is my favorite. I do like Famous Dave's and Sweet Baby Ray's sauces when in the mood for something different.

Still looking for something that doesn't taste like a bowl of brown sugar!

My preference is a "Heavy/medium" garlic/vinegar type sauce, just haven't been able to find it yet, sorry to say!!

Pretty sure I'm going to have to make my own, Step by Step!

Every year the American Royal has a commercial sauce contest. I have used this as my basis for mixing sauces and coming up with my competition blend. As it has been said, this is a subjective matter, but I think this is as good of a place to start as any.

Since this thread was put up a few things have changed.

For carolina sammich it's still george's hot or texas pete but now I will add pee dee river swamp sauce, but I'm not sure how much they make anymore.....I just have a WHOLE LOT of it. Laughing

For pulled pork or beef I put on the side Sa-Mokin sauce and now that my BiLo has Blues Hog I use that. Mighty fine sauce that Blues Hog!! I know why so many use it on the comp circuit.

For Ribs beef or pork I like a dry rub or sticky dry rub. No sauce. But, I have been known to glaze with TPJ rib candy or pineapple hab jelly.

I have had GREAT feedback from the public using 'chef's quality' bold from Resturant Depot.

I've bought 2 different kinds of the Pork Barrel BBQ Sauce. Both were awful. When I say awful, I threw them away. Believe me, it has to be really bad for me to throw it away.
