Anybody here have a Stump's gravity feed smoker? Iknow that a few people have constucted their own but I do not have the time or talent for that stuff. It really looks like an outstanding cooker as well as a nifty concept (gravity feed).
Are there any other "gravity feed" smoker brands on the market?
Thanks. |

I have a Stumps clone that I built. I don't know of any other Gravity fed cookers out there. At least none like the Stumps. You can check out the forum I run, it has a bunch of people that have built their own and maybe they can answer some of your questions. The link is in my signature. _________________ 18.5" WSM & 22.5" WSM

I have a Stumps GF 223. I can't say definately, but I believe Stumps is the only Gravity Feed on the market. _________________ Mike

| The movie shows that Stumps is a very neat idea that puts out good Q. Looks like a very efficient way to smoke. Plus, I liked the music. |

The smoker in the movie is a GF 222, the GF 223 is larger than the one in the movie.
Now that Stumps has teamed with The Viking Store, I think we will be seeing some new products coming out. _________________ Mike

| I have a GF223 and love it. To my knowledge Stumps is the only GF but I can't imagine that will last long. If you like your rest or are to busy to constantly man the pit, the Stumps is the only way to go. |

Before the Stumps GF was the LannyQ, made by Lanny Henson.
Lanny's cooker is stainless steel inside and out. It burns briquettes or lump, and is extremely fuel efficient.
Like any cooker, this one has its idiosyncracies, but once I developed a procedure, I can turn out consistent product every time.
It can be self-cleaning: Lanny recommends running it up to 500º for an hour to burn off the crud inside. This works, but I don't do it very often, preferring to fill the hopper with just enough briquettes for the cook.
The only bridging problems I've had were when I filled the hopper, but then, why put ten pounds of briquettes in when it'll run 8 hours on three pounds? That's eight hours with a load of twelve slabs of spares - it'll probably use a lot less with a light load.
Lanny has a website (Google LannyQ) or email Lanny@roman.net |
