Anyone see any problem with cutting down a cherry tree, cutting it into small fist size chunks and then storing it in a container like a rubber trash can?

Smokin Stang, I usually try and put green wood into a milk crate or something similar to get some air around it.
I do put it inside though.
If your gonna leave it outside I think you would want to keep it dry, and get some air around it.

Yeah, I just need a container to put large amounts in and store it inside the garage. Any suggestions?

Rubbermaid trash can with holes drilled in it, or as mentioned, milk crates work great. I use cat litter buckets and they work awesome. They are stacked behind the WSM's.

Smokin Stang, You could try some plastic laundry baskets also. They should be able to hold a good amount, and you can stack and move them, a garbage can full of wood sounds a little heavy. Shocked
Just make sure you don't grab your wifes, it won't work out well.

I just need a large container to place in the garage and fill it with green wood chunks. The container would never be moved. I would go to it, get chunks and then put them in 5 gallon buckets and carry around to the pit.

You could always go to your local hardware store and get some 48 inch chicken wire and make a basket out of that since you won't be moving it.

I just went to Lowes and bought some 32 gallon rubber trash cans and poked 1 inch holes all around. Seems like it will work well.

Thanks

Do you guys have any problems with carpenter ants or worse, termites, when storing the wood inside?
