I've been reading about each of the smokers discussed on this thread. I have one question, can I direct cook over the coals? Otherwords can I grill a steak?

Thank you,

There are no "coals". It's a cabinet style smoker. If you want to grill, you'll need something else.

I have a Stumps, the advantage to the Stumps is that they utilize the gravity feed method of charcoal delivery. With the Backwoods or the Spicewine, the longest burn you will get is gonna be 4 hours. With the Stumps you can get a steady 24 hour burn without reloading the charcoal.

Rolling Eyes

I went 15 hours on my last smoke on my Backwoods Competitor and not once did I add more charcoal.
