Haha I've been up for 15 hours at the library studying stats, my brain is fried haha. Complex stats? Yessir. Easy math? Obviously not.
And this was more just spitballing ideas. If it ever got to the actual possible sellin phase I would definetly have already contacted the welders. The last thing I would want to do is burn bridges.
The whole reason behind this was that because I did a bunch of work myself and got a good deal on steel that I might be able to sell this thing and net the fraternity the money I saved. I have no intention of gettin pad for any time I put in. Hell how often do you get to do huge project like this and have someone else pay for it!
Thank y'all for your responses so far. But my question was never answered. What price range could this thing net potentially? (I know there is a lot of factors, I'm just mean the ballpark. And yes everything I mentioned is known by my president and treasurer, they were the first people I approached with the idea. All the money we(my Fraternity) profited, would be reinvested back into the fraternity. [/list] |

Without going any further into "Who struck John" I have a few suggestions.
1st off I'll ass/u/me you got your previous tongue weight issue sorted out. If not (and memory serves me right) you need to before considering any sale.
To assume once again, I trust you not an accounting major?!
I hesitate to spend my money (or anyone else's for that matter) on bells and whistles I don't need.
That being said it is what it is at this point, and I appreciate your time to explain how we got here.
Look at this way- it's like certain home improvement jobs, and in this case it's one that really doesn't add value to the scheme of things even with (someone else's) sweat equity.
The above suggestion on using it at some tailgates with the group is a good one.
Recoup some of your initial investment, come up with a plan moving foward, and then do something different.
Advertise it at the same time- who knows, you may find a wealthy alumni that just have to have it!
Or keep it (it is a nice rig) and use it for it's intended purpose.
You MAY find someone willing to part with $30,000 for that, but you may well wait a while to get it.
Doesn't hurt to go fishin' though! _________________ BBQMAN

once everything was put on the trailer it balanced nicely. and just incase i really load it with wood or something i have a thick pipe welded at a 45* angle off of the middle front brace of the tongue that i can put weights on and clip in to add some temporary front weight.

energy commerce. im normally extremely good at math, but when i study for 15hrs strait when im taking a break the one thing i DONT do is math haha

what do you mean? if your talking about the stainless steel countertops, i thought we would use them and it just turns out we didnt. We didnt have a trailer smoker before this one so I was going for having it and not needing it, then needing it and not having it. I was thinking of maybe starting a small catering business for fundraising for my fraternity, but there is a large risk in there not to mention the cost of getting my guys certified and the trailer liscensed. If any of yall have gone through that process id love to talk to you about it.

We currently use it at every home tailgate

that is probabbly what will be the turnout in the end, the flipping the trailer was just an idea. I love the trailer and love cooking on it (made 200lb of brisket last weekend and it was delicious).

| I think its in the 15-$18,000 range, maybe, realistically. |

That was going to be my advice. For less than 30 grand I can get a brand new concession trailer that is air conditioned and has all the goodies aboard. Add a FEC-100 and you are at 31,500. _________________ Gunny 3073/4044/8411

You clearly (by your own admission) built much more than you need.
And like many projects it's not worth what you think it is (or maybe it is, I dunno).
You had the opportunity, and went for it- same as anyone else would do.
All things being equal I'd keep it, plain and simple.

I'm a fully lisensed MFDV.
But I'm not familiar with the rules/regulations out your way.
What you have there won't pass for anything other than fairs/festivals here, and the lisensing for that is pretty easy to come by most everywhere.
I've pretty much freely shared my own experiences in the commercial/catering/vending end of this forum.
Start doing some reading, there is a lot of good info there!

This is probably in the ballpark, .
Use Google and/or Craigslist, and see what comparable comps are for that type of toy. _________________ BBQMAN

Yupp, my base price trailer was $14,900.
Even if you added a brand new OH EL/EDX (which no offense to taintedplay is much more cooker) through wall we are still at $30,000.
That's why I mentioned doing a comp. _________________ BBQMAN

If 15-18 is my ballpark, then I am going to keep it. It was just a random idea i had one day, so i thought i might as well ask the guys who would know.
Thanks for all the responses yall |

Don't ask me. I have never made a penny on any smoker I have ever built. Then again maybe I am not good at bidness. _________________ The Wild Pig build.

Great example of TMI.
If you have just presented the description and photos of the cooker and left out all of the background/origin/finance/contract stuff you had a better chance for a straight answer.
As it is I think you got more advise about math and morality than appraisal of the cooker. I'm guessing that wasn't what you were fishing for.
It's not how you acquired it or what you have in it. It's what it is worth to someone else. Just watch Pawn Stars or Storage Wars and look what some people get for stuff they just find. _________________ 150 gallon vertical
