I`ll throw in one more from Lockhart. We just checked in at the hotel and are on our way to the cajun festival in Conroe, get some gator
This is from Kreuz. We have been there 3 times so far, amazing ribs. We also had the beef ribs, MAAAN they tasted good. They don`t hold back on the salt in their rub, and that really appeals to our norwegian taste buds. Seriously folks, if you go to Lockhart you have to try the beef ribs at Kreuz!! I think they only serve them on fridays and saturdays so make sure to plan your trip carefully.
Now that`s a sign!
I get hungry just by looking at the picture, I need more!!!
This is serious business!
One happy family.

If you're still looking for restaurants to try BBQ in the Houston area, go to The Swinging Door in Richmond and Shultz's in Rosenberg. |

A vacation from bbq restaurant to bbq restaurant, sounds like a perfect trip. Glad you didn't come in July or August, it was a little warmer.
Hope you two have a great time, you do realize at this rate your going so smell like smoke way after you get home.
Nice looking family, have fun ! |

Actually Yoda was a little taller, but not so wise about the offset force! _________________ Here's a change Robert.

You've gotta try it with the pickles and onions. I thought it was odd when I fist moved there, but it gives a nice crunch. |

I actually had the pickles and onions, and avocado. I liked it a lot.
I found this sign driving out of Lockhart, guess that name did not work to well with the Texas dialect
We met a couple of guys working on a car on the other side of the street from the take away, they laughed and told us "they all walked away"
We are off to the cook off now, report will follow.

Been offline for a couple of days now, but here we go again.
The cook off was great! I wish you could all be there. My family, k.a.m, mrs k.a.m, wreckless, big ron and big ron`s family was there. A great bunch of people. We ate Ron`s food and had a VERY nice day. Thank you Ron for the hospitality!! To us you won every category . We enjoyed a couple of extremely fine days with k.a.m and the mrs, more on that later.
Back on track. We went to the salt lick in Austin. It was nice, but had more of a restaurant feeling to it. Memphis type flavors and a lot of sweet greasy stuff on the food. Nothing like the hardcore places down in Lockhart but well worth a visit.
I figure, when in Texas do like the texans so I went off to a shooting range and fired off a couple of rounds with a .38 and a 9mm. That was fun!! I`ll try to go back there and have my wife shoot some
More updates tonight folks
Most for show I think. They have a industrial setup in a next door building (please correct me if I`m wrong on that)
Yup, got the T-shirt. Been there, ate that.

J.O., Good to see you got your gun off, now you need to fire a pron star sized cannon. Try the American favorite a street sweeper or an AR-15.
I am jealous that you stood in the presents of such BBQ knowledge and talent. Meeting Mrs.k.a.m. must have been an experience.
On a bit more serious note, I'm glad you are seeing and tasting some of the finer bits of the U.S.. Pass the word when you get home and bring back some converts to BBQ. _________________ GreenSmoker / Steve C.

Wow J.O. that's an amazing trip. I felt pretty lucky to take a weekend trip to KC last fall strictly for bbq. It pales in comparison to your trip. |

Just dedicated to the cause .
I bought a WSM for the folks we are staying at here in Austin. They love BBQ but don`t know how to cook so our last mission here will be to teach them how to use the cooker. I smoked up some chicken last night and will be cooking ribs and chicken tomorrow.
We went to San Antonio today and did the river walk and the Alamo. We got to be real tourists for a day but had to throw in the towel and head up to Lockhart to get some Smitty`s BBQ We are really not city people!! Enjoying the small towns in Texas is more our way.
Here`s some pics from a place I would recommend to everyone of you folks out there, Black`s Barbecue. Not the best meat in town but the total experience was amazing. They had the nicest, funniest guys working there and a lot of sides and other goodies. We had ribs, brisket and garlic sausage. That sausage was to die for!! Go there and get it !! They had family pics and all kind of memerobilia on the walls. We got the full tour and then some. A truly unique experience, like visiting a good friends grandparents. We just wanted to hang around there for the rest of the day.
Our daughter has been sitting in highchairs in BBQ joint for almost 3 weeks now, she`s loving it!
Mhm, that`s what daddy want`s.
That chopping board has seen a few briskets I guess.
The pit masters They gave us more than we asked for while the line outside was building up.
That`s what I would call a seasoned pit!

Found this old pic laying around. Looks familiar. Strange thing is, Yoda had one manboob and Luke seems to have some kind of rib problem going on. Go figure..
