I have a 20" round by 24" firebox. I plan on putting an approx. 14d x 20w flat griddle/warmer plate mated and boxed onto the top of the pipe.Should i cut away the pipe under the flat plate for more heat to the plate?Or will this rob my chamber of heat and possiblbly impede my airflow into the cook chamber?(I realize this will make my front load lid/door larger). _________________ inprogress 24 x 48 offset |

smith54, if your going to use it for warming sauces or mops I would just let the plate kiss the firebox door and box in the edges. She will get plenty hot from the radiant heat coming off the door. My top load door on my 18" x 24" firebox gets hot enough to ignite wood if left up there to long. _________________ Always remember slow and steady wins the race.

smith54, I guess you could cut out a coupon once you seal up the edges and later on if you feel your performance is not up to snuff weld the coupon back in. _________________ Always remember slow and steady wins the race.

Not the nicest work, whathehey, it was a prototype for my kiddos pit Frank Stein but, it'll sure fry up some bacon. It can be done tho and made to look much nicer. It doesn't swipe much heat since the griddle plate only has about a 1/2" clearance over the tubes and somewhat shrouded. It has plugs in the header tubes for when not in use. The FB can cover the loss on this pit at least. Food for thought if you decide to go for it.
