So, I took some of that 2" cherry blocking, split it up to about 2 X 3 ". I Build a fire in ol'e Nellie, then pre-burn the chunks in the front of the firebox.
I did some ribs Fri. in the UDS, using just these chunks. It really works GREAT! The fire acually lasts a little longer than lump. A basket just a tad over half full did the spares nicely.
I burn the chunks till they feel light, like lump.
Then a VERy quik dip in a pail of water, then lay out to cool
Then I put in a mesh onion bag & hang under the porch roof for storage.
works quite well!

I like it.
After I do a smoke, and let things cool down,
I try to save as much of the lump as I can.
I even salvage the chunks of wood that have burned for smoke.
It may look like it has turned to dust,
and is as light as a feather, but I save it.
It's not so much about being cheap,
just being efficient.
Thanks for posting, dude. _________________ "If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy."
