|
|
Hi
I live in Metro Manila and am looking for suggestions anyone can give me on wood that may work for smoking. We have currently been bringing bags of wood chunks back with us when we visit the states and every once in a while can find bags of hickory at ace hardware but the cost is very expensive and with my new interest in smoking we are using them up super quick. I have tried guava and it works ok but am looking for something that would work good with pork. Thanks in advance

Well, what is available there in terms of fruit tree and nut tree wood?
By the way, what is monkey pod?

Dried coconut husks?
Any varieties of acacia tree species there? Every seasoned acacia species I've used outside the lower 48 has worked as well as seasoned sweet mesquite. _________________ Let's hope SoEzzy can ditch his heavy hand on photos in 2016!

Thanks for the ideas.
Johnds, We have lychee , breadfruit , mango , guava and a little citrus for fruit trees. Not a lot of nut trees that I know about aside from pili and cashew. Not sure how to describe monkey pod but it makes great looking furniture.
necron 99 - they make charcoal out of the coconut shell here but have not tried the husks. I will try the acaia. |

So you use the coconut shell charcoal as the heat source, then add whatever fruit/nut wood you can as the smoke wood.
You need to figure out which of those fruit trees get pruned, then get those removed pieces. For instance, I have an orange and lemon tree that are never pruned, by my apple and apricot need it without fail. If you know which get pruned, you pursue them.
Of course you could go mail order. I doubt you could pay more to have just about any wood shipped to you from the states at the prices some people are willing to pay at smokelicious.com

Tell you what, if you mail me some coconut charcoal, I'll mail you whatever wood you want.
