I have access to an unlimited amount of Pecan and want to stock pile some for the future, but have a few questions.

How long does it need to season and is there any particular way I should stack it?

Also would it be OK to put this either in my garage or under my patio?

Stack it to where the air can circulate through the stack.
Cure at least 6 months. Should be ready next spring. All depending on how big the splits are.
Grab some old pallets and some T-Posts and make a rack. Stack it on the pallets and cover with a tarp if necessary to keep it dry.
Don't put it in the garage or close to the house. Think, termites and bugs. Shocked

I season locally abundant water oak in my garage, it takes about 6 months in this climate, maybe a little longer if it's cut near winter. Pecan should be similar.

If you're like me you already have a termite treatment contract on your house and garage, pretty well a given in this area.

Don't keep any pieces with evidence of bugs. For me, anything showing evidence of bugs, and is green, is burned down to coals in a seperate cooker (or you could use a fire pit or burn barrel) and coals are transferred to my horizontal offset smoker, or is discarded as yard waste for the parish yard waste pickup crews to haul off from the side of the highway in front of my house. I haven't yet seen termites in water oak, but it can contain small black carpenter ants in dead pieces / areas of the tree.
