The frame of the burner station is finished, and the burners are attached. I also picked up the bar grating that will be the floor of the wood storage area. We have plans to work on it Saturday, and I anticipate making a lot more progress. A few more work days, and it should be ready for sandblasting and paint.

We were able to get the wood storage completed Saturday. We also made quite a bit of progress on the charcoal grill, however my phone died before I could get some pics of it.

are those outside burners the 10" or so that put out 210,000btu? if so those babies put off some heat and do some serious burning, just something to take into consideration, they sure do make great crawfish cookers though _________________ Smokin' Aces Competition BBQ Team

Lol, yes I noticed when Kam's build went from two wheels to 4. I'm hoping that my weight estimations are correct and that one will suffice. I think without full decking, solid wood box, extra storage, etc. that the weight on mine differs from the smokin aces.
Yes those burners are some big ones! I got them mainly for crawfish boiling, etc. so it's good to hear they are good for that. I put a 6" low pressure in the middle for sauces and what not. Also, made the assembly removable so I can take it somewhere for just a boil without needing the trailer. I just need to figure out how to pipe, or hook the thing up now. |

we used ss tubing and tylok compression fittings to pipe up the burners, since you have 3 it will take a little more and since you made it removable you will need some quick connects to make it easier
this is what i picture in my head how you might have to do it
you can do away with the tube 90's if you have a set of tubing benders
kevin also incorporated needle valves for each burner for turning them on and off and controlling the flow of propane to the burner _________________ Smokin' Aces Competition BBQ Team

| With the two big burners being high pressure, and the little one being low pressure, won't I need two seperate lines? I do not know much about the difference, but just what I was thinking had to be done. |

GOOD QUESTION.....the large burners we have are controlled by a regulator like normal crawfish cookers and the small burner is controlled by a needle valve and also has a low pressure regulator at the tank that doest adjust
and now im stumped!!!
seems like you will need 2 tanks, and each burner have a separate line and could only run 2 at a time be it 2 large or 1 large 1 small......but i could be wrong _________________ Smokin' Aces Competition BBQ Team

My thinking is to have two seperate lines, and have the high pressure lines tee off to two burners. I definitely like the thought of needle valve control mounted on the front.
As for the tanks, I plan to have two on the trailer. But I was hoping to only have one of them hooked up at a time, and then the second one be as a spare. I was thinking run a splitter off of the propane tank:

And then have two seperate regulator hoses (one LP and one HP) coming off of that which connect to the hard piping. Quick connects are another excellent idea you mentioned. Thank you for taking the time to throw out your thoughts. |

We were able to get the majority of the grill fished this past weekend. There are still slide rails, and food grates to be made, but I think it looks good sitting on the trailer. My uncle was working on the exhaust yesterday, and will probably have that complete by the next time I see it.
Another question/concern has arisen in my design plans: placement of the propane tanks. How close to a heat source can they safely be? The plan was always to have them on the tongue, but that will be in very close proximity to both the charcoal grill, and the propane burners. What are your thoughts? Another option in consideration is to build a holder that attaches to the wood box in front of the passenger side wheel well. Any thoughts/ideas are welcomed. _________________ Tim B.

We were able to get the grill almost finished up and mounted on the trailer. Also began work on the propane tank holder. We decided to put it on the side of the trailer instead of the tongue.
Thank you for looking! _________________ Tim B.

Went by the shop last night to drop off her new shoes. Looks like my uncle was able to get more of the propane tank storage complete. With deer season upon us, I will no longer be able to get him to help on Saturdays, but i'm still optimistic that we'll be able to finish up by Christmas.

Definitely thoughts of making it tandem, but hoping I don't have to for build and money reasons. I put together a spreadsheet estimating trailer weight, and came up with the below.
I'll admit that I have no experience with building trailers, and only limited experience with actually pulling a trailer of this size, but I was thinking/hoping a single axel would suffice. Your thoughts?? _________________ Tim B.

At 3300+ pounds, your axle will be maxed out before loading much more. I would really consider bumping up your running gear to 5.2K (6 lug wheels) if and when you get serious about travelling much. At least if you only use a single axle, it will be rated enough for your trailer and a load of groceries. Axle, springs, wheels and tires; every link in the chain needs to be rated at, or above.
I see a lot of busted trailers; all in a days work... _________________ Yes, I went to welding school. No, I don't much cook, that's why I am here.... |
