So why not just buy some?
I'm sick and tired of buying cast iron "H" style burners for my grill x3 every 10-12 months.
As with all things gas, take care you have everything figured out and do a test in a safe area first.
And this isn't for smoker firebox use, they are for gas grills with an open bottom designed for make-up air.
These are NOT for use an oxygen poor environment like a smoker.
Schedule 40 stainless 1/2" pipe nipple 12" long:
Drilled with 1/8" holes along the length in a "V" pattern, approximately 25-26 per row x2 rows:
Note: after drilling, you need to remove all the burrs on the inside of the pipe to eliminate hot-spots with a rat tail file or small hone. This is one of the reasons why commercial burners fail so quickly.
Welded on end plate, then fit up 1/2" stainless T, Elbows, and Nipples:
Drilled out 5/8 copper tubing for gas venturi:
Adjusted standard gas grill controls to allow center distance between burners to be correct:
Nice blue flame- mission accomplished!

| This is a timely thread for me. Thanks BBQMAN! How hot do you expect the grill to get on high just out of curiosity? |

About as hot as a standard H burner, with more even heat.
I built a proto-type of this back in March, and used it heavily before spending the $$$ on all the fittings which I purchased on-line.
I'll find a link and post so you can save some $$. _________________ BBQMAN

BBQMAN, very nice burner set up.
Are the flat bars on top a diffuser kind of thing?
The only thing I know about gas is, I don't know enough to play with burners, etc.
Hope it works out for you. |

One of the best selections and prices I've found for fittings:
http://www.plumbingsupply.com/stainles.html
Roughly $100.00 worth of fittings and etc. per set of burners.
Welders time would be additional.
The shields on top both even out the heat, and keep crud out of the burner holes.
You could avoid most of the welding by using a threaded end cap and drilling them for the tab at the back.
The shields could be drilled and tapped into the pipe as well- I wanted a more permanent joint because they are really heat abused and didn't want the hardware failures.
Plug welding them was quick and effective.
You can mix and match cheap steel or galvanized big box fittings to get your dimensions right before buying the stainless if you have doubts on correct lengths.
The feed needs to be at a central T though for proper gas flow to both sides. _________________ BBQMAN
