Okay guys, let's build the ultimate smoker (on paper) just for fun. Here is what I propose to do. Over the next few weeks I will be posting a few questions (polls) for all of us to answer as to what we (as a group) would like to see as "the ultimate smoker". I know that we will have camps on all types of smokers so we will do this using majority rules. Once we settle on a design, i will generate a basic drawing and we can start building on the design. As each week progress we will all vote on the components, again by majority.

Keep in mind that this is for fun so don't get upset if your choice of smoker or component does not win the popular vote. By the end of the summer we will all have a general idea and a drawing of what we all think is the ultimate smoker.

Does this sound like something you guys would be interested in??

Currently we are working on Poll #2. Click here to go to the current poll.

Sure - go for it. I have two 250 galllon tanks awaiting a smoker build when it get cooler this fall. I'd welcome some ideas on the ultimate smoker design.

Yes this will be very interesting. But the problem with this is that there are hundreds of different types of smokers out there. How will one get picked without stepping on someone's toes and sending them off into a rant of major proportions?

Until K.A.M. gets a wild hair up his backside and actually builds it.

Sounds like a fun idea can't wait to start adding input and voting.

I do not see a problem with this. Through Alien's poles we will agree as a group on what basic design to use "majority rules" Then through design poles we all vote and once again "majority rules". As Alien said keep in mind this is for fun. Great idea Very Happy I am in. Heck I cant seem to finish mine I might as well help work on an imaginary one. Laughing

So is this the thread that we start submitting on?

As to toes, i burn mine all the time. Shocked

This is an exercise that would be great, and may even gather a bunch of ideas in one spot, it would make a great sticky once finished.

Its going to be a stick burner right?... Wink

The votes are in for the basic design and it looks like the combination vertical and horizontal design has won out. I have finished the drawings and will post them in a new poll. Again I will keep this link alive to point to the new poll. Please make your comments on this postings so we will have a record of what needs to go into the new design.

Here is the link to the current question....

I voted for the standard door with a warming box. While the dutch doors would be unique on a firebox I do not see the need for them. If we run with a basket in the firebox which I suggest we do the coals are going to be contained in it.

A basket sounds great but what about stick burners?

Alien, we run a basket in the R/F I built it sits on top the coal grate and handles 22" logs easily. A lot of folks run baskets in their stick burners to help contain the coals in a smaller area so they do not spread out.
