I am doing a cook for a friend for a museum opening. I am planning on PP Sandwich, Smoked Beans, Hot Links, and a Bag of Chips. Thoughts on a price for that plate?
Also a slab of cake for a dessert is extra.
A large cup of tea is extra.
Thoughts?
Thanks |

When pricing your plates, try and make them whole numbers, so you don't need to make change with every customer.
If you can bundle at $5.00 or so you don't need loads of dollar bills to pay change.
So a PP sammie, beans and chips for $5.00 might work well, same with the Hot links beans and chips.

You now either have 3 things to carry or you are doubling your lines, neither a particularly good idea in my mind! _________________ Here's a change Robert.

I am not sure I can do $5 for a plate of PP sandwich, beans, links, and chips. I was thinking $8, plus offering tea for a $1 and a slice of cake for a $1. Thank you for feedback, it is much appreciated.
I have seen most people listing their PP sandwich for $5 or $6, so I was wondering how you came to $5 for a full plate? Thanks again!! |

I think I can clarify, sorry. This is the only food available for an event, and the folks have a ton of places to sit in the building. The links were going to be a side item on the plate.
The options are
1. The full plate, PP Sand, couple of links, beans, and chips $8
2. Large iced tea $1
3. big helping of my wife's chocolate caramel cake $1
Thoughts? Thanks! |

Welcome aboard Kansas Outlaws BBQ Team
I'm with SoEzzy on the plate, only I am at $6 for sammie or links and a 1 oz bag of chips.
$1 each for the side, drinks and cake. If they want it all, it still gives you a $10 ticket.
I don't know what size your sandwich and links are, but that seems like a lot of food for one person.
When you say museum, I am thinking a bunch of older people, mostly female. They won't eat that much.
The size of the plate for all of that to fit on? Will it fold up or are you planning on super HD plates? _________________ Gunny 3073/4044/8411

Jarheads pricing works for me as well.
Not everyone will want a plate of both meats.
And you only have pork offerings, or are those sausages all-beef?
$1.00 for a large slice of cake is WAY to low.
$3.00 is more in line for a vending event, or offer a normal (small) size slice for $2.00 _________________ BBQMAN

Welcome to the smoke ring.
I assume you are a licensed vender and this is a legal venture.
I wouldn't know what to expect from a museum opening crowd, but why offer just plates? Will there be places to sit and eat a plated meal?
I would offer more of a walk and eat deal. Sammies and if they want a side, chips, or in your case, links with it, plate it and offer a fork.
"Would you like something to drink with that?"
It gives me more flexibility on pricing.
As far as how to price, just figure up what it costs you to put each offering together, take that times 3.3, and you'll do alright. You can make adjustments for things like cake.
I agree with BBQMAN in that $1 is too cheap.
Good luck. _________________ Tender - Juicy - Smoky - Goodness
