I was pre heating my smoker yesterday to smoke some corn. When I opened the top door I found my Taylor digital therometer taking on a brand new shape. I've only done 3 smokes with it. Embarassed

ouch.

i did a pretty stupid one lately as well, but maybe not as devastating. i used my smoker termometer and probe to check the temp of a massive 3 inch thick porterhouse...

since the temp was not quite where i wanted it, i left the probe in, closed the lid and returned to my wine drinking and chatting with friends...fat running down started a fire and burned the probe...

great.

Yeppers, I've learned shoes to be essential (unless you want to learn how to bust a few new dance moves), as well as these any time I do outdoor cooking.

I wish these gloves had longer gauntlets for messing with the chimney. Crying or Very sad

Absolutely correct about the gloves Mr. Tony Embarassed

Or going out half asleep at 4am to add a lit chimney to your cheapo offset, cooking a brisket, in bare feet. OUCH!!!

Weber needs to make a idiot proof model Laughing Laughing Laughing

+1 to the shoes.

I have worn my cheapo flip flops (usually around 4am), only to step on a hot ember.

Hmmm.... melted flip flop - a wonderful smell.

For gloves, I went to Harbor Freight & picked up a pair of their leather gloves. Cheep & much longer too Smile

If you use aftermarket squeeze type bottles for your sauce, make sure the lids are screwed on before you set them out for your guests. Roxy's crack sauce is good stuff for sure, but not a pint per sammie Embarassed

+1, and check the fact the threads match up with some pressure behind them(water) before putting into service.

Laughing Laughing That one reminds me, my lovely wife closed the lid on the smoker with one hand (it is quite heavy) before she finished removing the Thermapen completly with the other....still works but bent the probe Shocked Shocked

If it had been a Super Duper Fast Black Thermapen we would not be having this conversation as it would have been fast enough to find its way out before he lit the fire. Wink
