Posted: Jun 21 2011 Post subject: Deep Fried Kool-Aid??? REVISED & FINAL |
|
|
I know it ain't BBQ, but something that I ran across for vending.
Anybody ever made Deep Fried Kool-Aid in their fryer before?
Anyway got this recipe, and it doesn't specify whether the KA is sweetened or unsweetened. I'm guessing unsweetened. D@mn that's a bunch of them little packs to open.
I'm going to try it later today and post pics and a review. Be it good, bad or the dogs won't eat it.
NOT UNSWEETENED, YUCK
Deep Fried Kool Aid
Ingredients:
3 Eggs
2 Cups of Milk
1/4 Cup of Sugar
3 2/3 Cups of Flour
1/2 Teaspoons of Salt
1/4 Cup of Sweetened Cherry Kool Aid
2 Teaspoons of Baking Powder
Vegetable Oil For Frying
Making The Batter:
Beat the eggs and the sugar together in a mixing bowl. Slowly add the milk while beating slowly. Add all of the dry ingredients, and beat until the mixture is slow and creamy. The batter should be a bright pink color. Add more kool aid as desired.
Cooking Directions:
Cook in hot vegetable oil for about 3-4 minutes. Remove from the hot oil when the fried kool aid batter is golden brown and is crispy.
Optional:
If desired, the deep fried kool aid can be rolled in a mixture of powdered sugar and sweetened cherry kool aid after it is fried. Use about 1/4 cup of kool aid to 1/2 cup of powdered sugar.
Allow the Deep Fried Kool Aid to cool a bit before eating. They will burn you badly if eaten too soon. Just ask my Doberman. _________________ Gunny 3073/4044/8411

I know, but it has the sweetener in it. I need unsweetened and Kraft says they don't sell unsweetened like that
Thanks anyway, DWD.
Just got back from the store. 20 packs of grape and 20 packs of cherry.
The cashier asked me if I had quit drinkin'? _________________ Gunny 3073/4044/8411

I am thinking that only a ¼ cup of sugar for a ¼ cup of unsweetended kool aid is gonna be quite bitter to say the least. 1 small packet alone calls for a ½ cup of sugar for a ½ gallon of water. _________________ “Franken Smoker”

Never had one. You tell me? No cornmeal or jalapenos in this. But that may be an experiment for later. Thanks for the idea. Fruit Punch Jalapeno Hush Puppies. Yessir, we might have a winner. _________________ Gunny 3073/4044/8411

Just tasted the batter with SWEETENED Cherry KA in it. Not bad. Added a touch of Unsweetened to 1/4 cup of batter, yep, bitter as sh!t. With the sweetened, it needs a tad more for flavor and color.
Will let ya know next batch.
Use the sweetened.
Finished pics comin' up.
BTW, recipe changed above to reflect "sweetened". _________________ Gunny 3073/4044/8411

AW-RIGHTY, Boys & Girls. We have pics, so it did happen.
I couldn't find my small scoop, so the 1/4 cup and a spatula had to work. Ain't purty, but they d@mn sure taste good.
The batter
The temp (well almost)
The fry
The toss
The Money Shot (sorry bout the blurrrrr)
Gimme a BEER, I'm tired of Kool-Aid.
Final recipe corrected and ready to go for your gourmet pleasure.
Beer-Break. _________________ Gunny 3073/4044/8411

Jarhead, how many beers were involved in this? I think I have had enough to try it though. After all everything is better deep fried, even Kool Aid I guess. Thanks. |

Gunnny's gone Carny on us!
Let us know how it goes with sales.
My kid wanted to try deep fried gravy balls to be served with chicken and the like.
We made em.
They were disgusting.......................
Hats off to you fry babies, something I have yet to venture into myself and would have to be an outside festival sport- my kitchen is not equipped for fryers. _________________ BBQMAN

Hey, if they wanna buy 'em, I'll sell 'em.
It has to beat the blowout from last Saturday.
That's what got me to thinking about something that's never been heard of in my little one horse towns.

If people see it on a banner, they will be curious and come over. I hope.

That's exactly what I'm looking for. But I hope to sell more than one bag per season.
To give you an idea as too how they taste, it's like a cherry doughnut hole rolled in a crushed cherry sweet tart.
Gonna try some different flavors. Maybe Pina Coladas?
Thanks for your support and views.
Hope that helps. _________________ Gunny 3073/4044/8411

DWD, that don't even sound good.
Rub on/in your dognut. Talk a bout a surprise.
I did try some Grape and Hawaiian Punch last week. 1/2 batch of each.
The grape was good. The punch was dog food. _________________ Gunny 3073/4044/8411

corndog, congrats on a fine showing.
How do you hold your batter without it blooming and going bad?
Do you cook to order or hold under a heat lamp?
This is a whole new ballgame for me. _________________ Gunny 3073/4044/8411
