SoEzzy, if this should belong in OT then please transfer it there.
Just YOUR 2 cents about a vending relief effort for Joplin Mo for our Legion Post? What is your input?

Aurora, Missouri takes the cake.
A benefit for the city of Joplin MO. I personally bought all of the groceries and packaging.
The Aurora Chamber of Commerce charged me $75 + 10% of sales for a benefit.
Lawrence County Health Dept. wanted $10 for a permit for 12 hours for said benefit.
Sold 10 sammies @ $5 and 4 meals @ $7.50
The people that made all of the $$$ are listed above in bold.^^^^^
aka "Screw Joplin" Evil or Very Mad

I had lots of leftovers, took them to one of my favorite watering holes and put some of them up for auction.
Luckily I only took 5 meals and 2 sundaes.
I guess they wanted them for free.
Top bidder was $.25 (that's right 25 cents per meal). Get the 'F' outta here and go to f'n McShizzle. Order 1 straw, 1 salt, 1 pepper and a napkin. Bet your A$$, it'll be $.99
I bid $.26 and told that SOB, that the dogs would be happy tonight.
I hope nothing like that ever happens here, like what Joplin has endured, but if it does, “Please place me on the do not call list”
Enough of my being PI$$ED off.
What do ya think?
Vending or Off topic?
Bend Over and grab ahold of your ankles?
Your 2 cents?

Gunny sorry it didn't turn out, your heart and effort was in the right place.

I often don't know what goes on with the BS bureaucracy that seems to have become more prevalent in todays life.

Don't stop giving back to your community, it makes you sleep great at night.

Thanks again for your efforts from North West Vermont.

Thanks for your efforts either way.

I donated directly to the relief fund with $$.

Not to question, but you left out a lot of info.

How was it promoted, and for how long?

I.E. it's hard to blame the city and regulatory authorities for the failed turnout, although one would think they would have waived the red tape $$$ for a benefit?

I donate to my local homeless shelter on a routine basis.

They called me early this year wanting to do a benefit to help the organization in May before the weather got too hot.

I gave them a list on what needed to be done ahead of time, and that the key was planning early.

I was willing to donate my time, rig, and all ancillary items and outside labor.

I was NOT willing to have things set up so that I took one on the chin.

And never heard back from them..............................

Thanks guys for listening to my rant.
It is a yearly event called "Light Up The Night". It's an early 4th of July celebration. They want to beat the other communities to the punch. I think this is their 2nd year of having it early.
They put flyers out and advertised in the local papers for about a month or so before hand.
I'm not blaming them for lack of sales, just for charging us an excessive fee. Then the county had to get in on it too. The vending license that I have for my vending trailer would not work, because I had to work out of an EZ Up. Don't sound right to me. Confused

Most every community that I know is less flexible these days on fees due to lost tax dollars.

It costs money to do the paperwork and keep the wheels turning.

Not that it's an excuse, but it is the reality that most of us are living with.

My county is considering a usage fee (waived for folks at a certain income bracket, retired, military etc.) to offset operational costs at our most popular parks.

It takes people to run them, and it takes tax dollars to pay them.

Just some "food for thought".

Each weekend I have to pay about 100.00 for a food permit for each county I'm in! The state license doesn't count or mean anything.

I hear ya Jarhead
City permit for vending here is $27 for three months. Also the city wants each vender to carry a 2 million dollar aggregate ins policy. Upped my costs an extra 100 a year.
Found out this year the city also wants venders to get a temporary building permit to set up a canopy for the day which would cost me an extra $25 for that but the building codes & permit guy has been arguing with the city dads about it so nothing is getting done yet.
Yet every body has there hands out wanting money... i still need to make a profit on what i sell or why do it?
Time to concentrate on catering and leave vending to those who can afford to loose money.

Jeff, sounds like you have the same money hungry ba$tards that we have.
Although, you may have it worse with a $25 temp building permit for an EZ-Up. Shocked
I'm stickin' to roadside vending. I've already got permits and licenses for that.
It costs me lunch wherever I set up. Not required, but I do it.
If I have a great day I will even give the owner a tip. Hey, that's fair in my book.
