I know I sound like a one string band, but without knowing where you are located it is hard to help. Why people are afraid to put even their location let alone common interest in their profile amazes me...

I would say we could help you but w/out knowing what part of the world your in we cant help you much. We dont need your exact coordinates but a general idea would work.

sorry about that..when i registered i was rushing to type my question ..anyway im in edison, new jersey..i have a double barrel smoker that we just built.it has a single flue/damper system (vogelzang kit).

my 1st time i smoke a baby back rib it tasted like smoke.i thought i needed a lot of smoke coz its a smoker! Rolling Eyes ..so after that ive learned that i did what is totally opposite .i finished a 20lb charcoal and a 8 or 10lb bag of soaked hickory wood that day..imagine the taste. hehe.

2nd time was last week.i used 20lb charcoal again and a couple of apple wood chunks.the meat tasted good.no more smoke. the catch is it took the meat 6.5 hours in the smoker without even cooking it.i still have to put the meat in our oven for about 1-1.5hours .
On both occasions i cant get the temp to stay 200-250*f for long.

so a guy with the same set up told me to use straight up wood.but i also read that use oak/maple/apple or cherry wood.i never read of other types of wood .now im curious if it matters on what wood you use?will it affect the flavor?
btw sorry for the late response we were busy today ,its my daughters graduation.i was gonna make some ribs but cannot find those types of wood .unless i wanna spent 7bux per 4lb of chunks at home depot.
the only thing i found affordable was birchwood and some hardwood.im not sure what wood is the hardwood.
thank for your help guys!

Look on Craigslist for a firewood supplier. You can also check in with a few tree cutting services in your area and tell them what your after. There is also plenty of online suppliers that you can order from, i think 1-2 are even advertisers here at the ring.

Not from those pictures.

You got a fire pit? (other than the smoker) If so you just got free wood and it turns out to be cooking wood, even better.

If it is white birch be prepared to use a lot because it burns up quickly, it's not very dense. You should also remove the bark first because it creates a nasty smoke before the wood ignites.
