|
|
My new grill can really crank out teh gas, it has 5 regular burners plus a searing burner, and side plate 65,000 BTU's (see other post on K6b) When I have alot of burners going the regulator on gas tank starts to hum and vibrate.
Now it was like 101 degrees and 90% humidity (i.e. average East Tennessee summer day) when this happened, and reading online I have seen where people say it's not dangerous and is common for gas grills with temp extreme between outside and cold regulator from high flow.....but that said, it makes everyone nervous, and is annoying.
Can you get a better Regulator to avoid this? Any tips?
The regulator came with my Char-Broil K6B grill, and the gas tank is just typical Walmart tank. |

Sgt_Nick_Fury, welcome to the ring looking forward to seeing some pics of your cooks. Try disconnecting the bottle then reconnect it. Then open the tank slowly to about 1/4 to 1/2 open. The regulator will only take what it needs and no more so by opening the bottle less you do not have as much back pressure on the regulator. Try this and see if it helps. _________________ Always remember slow and steady wins the race.

Regulators can vibrate for several different reasons. First and foremost being at their maximum capacity especially in high heat/high humidity. Secondly high demand low inlet pressure, typically due to surging or diaphragm humming. To eliminate the latter be sure all burners are off and cylinder is off. Connect the connector to the cylinder and open the cylinder slowly, turn off the cylinder, and reopen, typically three times will do it. If you have a hard time attaching the appliance to the cylinder you can spray silicone lubricate into the valve opening (only silicone since it will not react to the rubber and cause it to swell). Then turn on your burners. If you have the black QCC connector it is only rated for 72,000 BTU's and you are about at its maximum for the excess flow to start working that is built into the black fitting. You can upgrade to the green QCC fitting that has a rating of 200,000 BTU's and see if this helps and possible a better regulator if needed. Sometimes the QCC fitting is made to where you have to replace the regulator at the same time. Hope this helps. _________________ Trailer build |
