Hello all, my first post here and really hoping to find some others who use this grill. I took quite awhile looking around, but ultimately could not pass this up, the build quality is really excellent (with the exception of a few pains in putting it together, usual bad tap and die job on a China made product, elbow grease muscled through it. )
It's much sturdier then other grills in price range however, and solid materials, nice casters, (why does Weber have such tough grills but crappy wheels?) and if you like to grill the realestate on this one is HUGE. (650+ inches on grill with an additional 250+ on rack.) I got mine at Wally MArt for like 280 dollars and tax. It was easily better then anything else I found in the 200-400 dollar range. I thought about getting a Weber, but honestly for my own needs haveing more space mattered more to me, and even a Weber with half the room would be more then double. I know their made better, but man i could buy two of these and use one for spare parts for Weber money and this will deffinately last a 5-10 years I think........I hope. Besides any extra money goes to smoker fund as my smoker is rusting out...and it takes priority over any grill.
The 6 Burner giant.
Anyone else use this? It was nice to fly through 20 porchops without anything having to wait for space. Had a nice assemly line going. First they went to searing burner on far right side on each side and a 90 degree turn on one side, Then I moved them over to low heat area to finish while I closed it up and oiled and spiced the next set of chops. I just kept going through them without any stopage save the occaisonal closing of lid to smoke a bit (and time to prep my next porkchop) all the while having top trey full of roasted corn (in shucks, above pic is not mine) and dogs cooking slow as well. Perfect for large family gathering.
I have questions though some of which could be answered by anyone with a newer gas grill.....
I am not really used to having a specific searing section on grill, I enjoyed, it but had a hard time mastering it, any tips on searing on a searing designed burner would be appreciated. There's really no tips or directions with it. The right burner is for searing and gets very hot on high. I understand teh concept and sort of did it, but I had a hard time standardizing results. I am a searing novice, save searing a roast in kicthen.
Also Rust is what kills everything I love, i know it's stainless, but I live in South East Tn (Chattanooga) which means that stainless steel is just a speed bump to rusting.....everything rusts here given time in 100 degree 90% humidity summers. Any tips on keeping it up and rust free? I don't think I can "cure" it like the cast iron smoker. I have seen some products sold online to give extra protection and a clear coat, but I worry about using anything that might give off chemicals in high heat. Would like tips on care of brushed stainless in outdoor environment as well.
Also, it's been awhile since I have worked with ANY grill that has gas, I used wood charcoal on last one I had, my father had gas back in the day, however it was just a couple of burners, I notice on this when I get up to all 6 burners it's starts to hum and vibrate at the gas regulator.
I did some research on net and this apparently has nothing to do with grill but rather just the gas regulator and gas tank and extremes in heat (101 this Memorial Day, vs the icy cold temp on regulator when high amounts of gas are going through.....several people have listed this problem with everything from Weber to generic brands.....it's really just annoying and it won't happen as long as I have burners on low which I usually do. However when I crank all burners up (such as for cleaning) it vibrates like it might go off......again everything I read SAYS this is common on gas grills when large flow of gas is going but it still makes me nervous.
Can you upgrade the regulator? is this a sign of a cheap one? If so who makes a good one?
Lastly It has Porcelain powdered cast iron grates same as their infrared grills, I haven't had this type of grill top before, in past had reg cast iron. Can you use regular metal spatulas with them without damaging them? Can they be cleaned in dishwasher? (that would be nice) Will a brush hawg grill brush mess up porcelan? If I can clean it in dishwasher it's worth it!!!! Otherwise I was pretty happy with oiled cast iron.
Anyway the grill itself I love, esp for price, the heat was very even first time out, and everyone was impressed with results which i was surprised by since this was my first time with this grill......if it holds up to steady use it's a steal.......It looks like a much more expensive Grill, and seems made better the Brinkman and other similar priced units. |

I looked at that grill and liked it I'm also looking at one at Bass Pro just like it and sells for about 400.00. I was also looking at a Weber gas at Home Depot and it sells for $1300.00 man is this a sweet grill but lots of money. You would never wear it out. On the sign they printed you can make monthly payments.................
Think I might go with the one from Bass Pro its a Char-Broil.... but I'm also looking for more space I like the bigger ones now.......... |
