Lump is hotter faster cleaner.
Save the briquettes for the dutch oven and your mother-in-law's steak.  |

It's quieter... You can hardly hear them scream.
I don't think you'll notice a difference if you use a good briquette... |

In my experience, I've found that briquettes give a more consistent burn, but also give off a LOT more ash, which can make maintaining temp an issue in a UDS. I haven't messed with it a ton, I usually burn lump, but that's my $0.02. _________________ It is easier to ask forgiveness than permission.
Foil is the enemy.

The only thing revealed in that blog is that lump will burn hotter than briquettes in an uncontrolled fire, and will burn up faster. Duh.
As for using a cup of lighter fluid on lump...
