Lump is the purest form of charcoal.

Does Lump last as long as charcoal or does it burn quicker?

Lump is hotter faster cleaner.

Save the briquettes for the dutch oven and your mother-in-law's steak. Laughing

It's quieter... You can hardly hear them scream.

I don't think you'll notice a difference if you use a good briquette...

In my experience, I've found that briquettes give a more consistent burn, but also give off a LOT more ash, which can make maintaining temp an issue in a UDS. I haven't messed with it a ton, I usually burn lump, but that's my $0.02.

I recently did a test to see how each one burned and found that the briquettes burn more consistant. I smoke a lot of my food so thats what i am looking for. I guess its all a matter of what you like though. Here is my article that I posted http://drunkenturkey.com/3/post/2011/05/lump-vs-briquette-the-heat-test.html

The only thing revealed in that blog is that lump will burn hotter than briquettes in an uncontrolled fire, and will burn up faster. Duh.

As for using a cup of lighter fluid on lump... Rolling Eyes

Cheers
