I found a guy in Saint Louis on CL selling a half a bed of mesquite for $100. everytime I talked to him it was like talking to a spoiled brat in his mom's basement. he was whining the whole time like I was trying to force him to sell something he put up on CL.
we finally got it all worked out and my friend and I took off for STL. 50 miles into the 120 mile trip, the seller remembered he would have to go out in the rain and cancelled the meeting. he told me to come back on monday. are so many people sitting back on government money that that sounds normal in these days? I told him I have a job (duh, I have wood money = I work!)
My friend asked me if that means we were turning around. I was the passenger, so I fired up the laptop, got back on CL and found a guy selling apple wood by the truck load. I got this truckload (pic below) for $50.
I use apple wood for ribs. this load was about the price of 8 - 9 bags of wal-mart apple wood chips. even if I only use 1/4th this load, I saved money

Methinks you ended up with the better deal. I tend to use mesquite only for brisket or an occasional butt. Apple is much more verstile - use it alone or mixed with oak, cherry, etc. _________________ I was taught to respect my elders. It's just getting harder to find them.

Your a hell of a long ways from where mesquite grows so if he acctually had a truckload of it shipping it to his place from texico would have killed him on the deal.
That how I see it anyways.
Apple wood is more versitile in my opinion so you scored good on the apple wood. |

| I love apple and cherry. Cherry and apple. Hickory is ok but apple and cherry are the bomb... |

I love mesquite for chicken. I'm going to make a 2nd attempt at the mesquite.
I use the apple for ribs.
I'm looking for cherry now. _________________ It's all about the smoke!
