Is Weekend Warrior so much better than RO American lump that its worth $20.00 Shocked for 22#? I think I will stick with RO. Any thoughts on these two brands?

Wicked Good is in fact Wicked Good. Now with that said, I have never used Royal Oak but I have used plenty of other lumps and in my opinion it burns longer and cleaner than anything else I've used. The only "problem" is that some of the pieces so large they dont fit in my charcoal basket. It's probably the most dense charcoal I've ever seen...

+1… that being said I have switched to RO lump due to cost when Wally World stated to stock it up here. I just can’t justify the cost and I am very happy with RO lump. I was getting the last of WG competition blend before they phased it out.

Additionally, based on the WG web site they lost a lot of distributors that last time I looked.

Cheers

If the WG Weekend Warrior was in line with my locally made lump, Grove, I'd use it exclusively. Grove lump is sold at my local liquor store for $13/22lbs. I could probably get it cheaper but I buy from him because he lives down the street. WG is reserved for the long cooks and I sometimes mix it with the Grove.

I started with WG (spoiled me for everything else) and have stuck with it even though the cost is high. I pay $18 for a 22lb bag. There isn't anything else I can get locally that works as well. It is especially good if your family likes a light smoke flavor (like mine does with chicken and turkey.) You really don't have to add any wood to get a mild, pleasant flavor.

That being said, Royal Oak seems to be a favorite of everyone here who uses it. I would definitely give it a try if I could find it.

Wally World should have it $6.37 for 10 pounds.

Cheers

Thanks, I will take a look this weekend but it is not a brand they generally carry around here.

Not RO, but I bought 10 bags of Stubbs at Lowes when it was BOGO.
I'm spoiled, I like lump better in my WSM's and UDS's. Just too much ash left behind with briquettes.

I have not tired the WG lump due to price. Last time I saw it somewhere around here it was $25/22lbs... Shocked That bag better be lined with gold IMO.

I purchase the Lazzarai Mesquite lump charcoal at Cash+Carry here in the west. Its $13.50/40lbs and burns longer and hotter than other lump that i have tried, IMO. Right around the 4th of July it goes on sale for $10 and change... Shocked

I'd try Wicked but don't have it around here, so I use RO Lump or Briqqs

It seems to be a fitty-fitty proposition: of the four Wally Worlds closest to me, only two of them carry RO lump: the one in Northboro on Route 9, and the one on 117 out in Leominster. The Hudson and Framingham stores are totally pwned by Kingsford (ugh).

You have four within fifteen miles. I'd hit the web site, look up their phone numbers, and ask. It'll save you the gas money Wink and I bet at least one of them carries the good stuff...

Cheers!

As soon as I'm done with my two bags of charcoal i'm gonna go try the Wicked Good stuff, @ $28/22# bag. Gotta try it at least once.

I found RO at my local Wall-mart but it is $7 for 10lbs, almost the same as I pay for WG ($18 for 22lbs). Everything else being equal, is the RO worth the price?
