What is the normal serving size for a PP sandwich? 3 - 4 oz. How much do you normally charge? _________________ Welding 101 Stan 250 |

I'm sure some with experience with Vending will post a reply.
I did some searches and find that 4oz is a typical pulled pork sandwich size, with 5oz for a large pp. 2-3oz might be more of a pulled pork slider size. One thread I found in particular:

4 oz on a 4" Sara Lee Bun looks like this. And it is $6 this year w/ a 1 oz bag of chips.
I thought about 1/3# on a 5" bun, but I haven't tried it yet.
Sliders are 2 oz each and on a King's Hawaiian Roll. You get two of them. Same price. That reminds me, I need to update my website. _________________ Gunny 3073/4044/8411

We serve a 4 oz sammie and a 5 oz "Jumbo" (same roll, just more meat).
Prices were $5 and $6.00 this past season, and many years previous.
Like the others, I'll be raising prices by $1.00 ea. for next season. _________________ BBQMAN

Whats a Big Mac or other pp competing sandwiches going for? Will a $6 or $7 pp price you out of the market? Or is it even a concern? _________________ From vending to Brick & Mortar |

That's a good question!
For our fresh market I doubt it will be a concern, but something I've given a lot of thought to.
I have not raised prices in many years, so it's time- nothing has gotten cheaper since we stated our market 9 seasons ago.
We are not competing with McShizzle prices either, all of the food vendors offer quality foods at a reasonable price.
The direct answer is we will still be competitive on prices for our event. _________________ BBQMAN

Yeah, thats what I thought, in my opinion there's little or no comparision to a chain product, the reason I'm asking is we sell ours for $5 and am thinking about bumping it up too.
We get approx 10-12 good sized sandwiches from one butt. _________________ From vending to Brick & Mortar |

Well if anyone is going to be so dumb as to compare a big mac with bbqman's 4oz sandwich they need to be directed to actually compare the two.
I'd be willing to bet that bbqman's 4oz sandwich has around 4oz of meat.
The big mac has two 1.5oz patties of meat...errr....of meat and water. Water can account for up to more than 60% of the total weight of the "meat". So with the big mac you could actually be getting .9oz of meat on your burger.
BBQMAN's sandwich is 4oz for $5 = $1.25 per oz of meat
BBQMAN's projected price increase will be 4oz for $6 = $1.50 per oz of meat
The big mac is 3oz minus 60% water weight for around $4 = $4.44 per oz of "meat"

The public is funny. Our sandwich came with 6oz of bbq, and sold for $4.19
We had folks who said it was too big, too pricey. They couldn't understand why we couldn't sell our sandwich for 99¢ like Bojangles. Even though Bojangles walls weren't lined with trophies for bbq. |

Some folks set size and then price it, others price it and then set the size. _________________ Jerk Pit Master
