I haven't cooked pizza on the Chargriller for a while. I was at the store the other day & spotted a couple 'take & bake' pizzas.

I fired up a mix of lump and briquettes to get things going. Then added more lump on top to get it nice and hot. Right before adding the pies, I added a couple of chunks of apple to give them a nice wood fired oven taste.

We really like the way pizzas come out on the grill. The crust especially! A nice crispy crust, but not too done. You can hold a slice by the outer crust & it sticks straight out, ready to be devoured!

One with the works

And one with all meat. I added more pepperoni & some homemade loin bacon

Getting a nice bed of coals going

First one is on

Action shot from the 'firebox cam' Rolling Eyes . Good & hot!

Just about there!

Just right!

Time for the carnivore special

A couple of fresh chunks of apple wood

The pizza peel a friend gave me comes in handy!

Getting there

Perfect!

Time to make it disappear

Perfect crust!

Nice Beertooth! I usually give up on pizza in the summer as the house gets too hot. I may try some this year. Smile

Very nice! I have not seen pies cooked on the grill before. =P Do you close the lid to let them bake? (I assume so...)

I'm German/Sicilian with enough Sicilian in my blood to be a real pizza snob. I usually make pizza in my oven (with a pizza stone) by hand (crust and all); but, now this opens a whole new world of possibilities for me! =D I will definately be attempting to fire up a homemade pizza off the smoker this week.

Pat - Thanks! Summer time = grilled pizza!

Wolframn - I keep the lid closed as much as I can. I open it to turn the pie a quarter or half turn to keep the crust even. On your stone it would be great.

There have been others do this too if you look in the Grilling section of the forums. I prefer doing it with charcoal & wood indirectly.

Smokin Mike - Probably close to a full chimney. Just want to make sure there is enough to get your cooker good and hot.

zski - Thanks! Have you done them outside before?

Beertooth, I do them all the time on my Traeger . That's actually the only way we do pizzas anymore, whether frozen, take out, or homemade. I like how the crust gets nice and crispy and the cheese takes on some smoke flavor.

killswitch505 - Thanks Denny! Smile

Smokin Mike - Right on man! You'll love it. Just keep an eye on it.

zski- Right on! It's hard to do them in the oven after having a grilled one.

Raine - I have thought about getting a stone but these turn out darn good like they are. Very Happy

Raine I use a stone, but it takes along time to get the stone hot enough but the end result is better.

With the pie on the grill the crust cooks before the top of the pizza gets a nice caramelization.

looks good. I love to throw a in the pit digorno beside a long cook session if people are starting to get hungry. I have one of those $100 pizza ovens in the house so I always have a supply of digornos.
