I am going to be retiring my poor old beat up Blackberry. I am well over-do for a new phone. I am on T-mobile right now, so I am going to get the new G2x when it comes out in a few days. The list of specs on it looks pretty sweet. Including a dual-core processor & an 8 megapixel camera.
So as the title says...

On the G2x, you should avoid task killers. Now that the system has the hardware it needs, it will do a better job of managing memory than you will.
I have the following installed. * indicates I think it's essential:
Amazon
Amazon Kindle
Angry Birds
Appbrain App Market
*Barcode Scanner
Beautiful Widgets
Books by Google
*Chrome to Phone
*Dropbox (cloud based hosted storage, gets files to your phone)
ES File Explorer (requires root)
Facebook
Gun Bros
*Here I Am (determines your GPS coordinates, then sends them via email or text to someone to pick you up)
*Instafetch (bookmark on your phone, read on your computer or Kindle)
*Lastpass (password manager)
Listen
Mint
Opentable
Pandora
Phoneflix
*qik (records video and autouploads to the cloud)
Reader by Google
Rehearsal Assistant (only voice recorder to record in .wav)
Robodefense
ROM manager (requires root, only need it if you plan on installing other ROMs)
*Silenttime (schedule your phone to silent/vibrate during work, church, when you sleep, etc)
Smooth Calendar
Spare Parts (may require root, not sure)
Sportstap
*Sugarsync (backup your photos)
TED mobile
Titanium backup (root)
*Exchange by touchdown (hate, but needed if you need exchange access for work)
Tripit
Twitter
Yelp
LauncherPro
I'm totally bias, but I am familiar with all the major smartphone platforms, and I really like the Android platform now that it's matured a bit and has better hardware supporting it. _________________ Real eyes realize real lies |

I agree completely.
It gets SO irritating when I go to a store and ask for a phone.
Q - "What do you want it to do?
A - Call and receive calls from other phones.
Q - What kind of apps do you want to run?
A - None. I just want a phone.
Q - Do you want to be able to read email?
A - No. I just want a phone.
Q - Ok, but...
A - I'd like to speak to your manager, please. |

Living Social - cheap stuff, no paper!

IMDB - you know that guy, from the movie - with the girl.
Netflix! - plug your kids in anywhere
Urban Spoon - They call this BBQ?
Shop Savvy - scan and find cheaper stuff
Gear ID - scan your stuff, always have the model number.
Wow Armory
Levels - $500 level
Flashlight - turn your flash into a flashlight
Solunar - wanna go fishing?
Cheers,

Very cool guys, thanks. There are a lot of great looking apps listed here. I can't wait to get my phone. I am a total geek & gadget freak.
I have a couple weeks to look all of these over & make a "must have" list.
Thanks! _________________ Camp Chef Pro90 Stove w/ Griddle

If that's the case, and per your other post where you say you work on other people's computers as a side job, you should look to root it and install a custom rom (operating system). Cyanogenmod is the big name, but the xda forum is full of developers putting out custom roms.
If you are savy enough to learn how to flash a rom, you're savy enough to get annoyed by some of the things stock roms do. _________________ Real eyes realize real lies |

Yeah that's one thing I was going to look into shortly after getting it. It still hasn't been released so I'll have to wait & see.
But yeah, anything that I own that is hack-able, is hacked! _________________ Camp Chef Pro90 Stove w/ Griddle

I've been using Soundhound lately. Just hold your phone near a speaker and press the button. It will tell you all the info you could want about what's playing. I've only had it miss a couple songs and that was when I was in the car. Pretty cool if you're into music.[/b] _________________ In the shadows of Lambeau |

Wonderful. Stay in the dark ages, but dont give me chit cause i want the thing to do other stuff.
The wife got an incredible deal on the HTC Thunderbolt. We use Verizon. $149 OTD.
I have been looking at some of the different hacks. Can anyone give me the breakdown on "Rooting" the phone. I understand the idea that it is to give you super user/admin abilities, but as the user what is the advantage to this? I am not a code writer or super geek but love to use technology to its fullest.
I would like to get rid of my conventional net service but am worried about the speed that the 4G network will give me on my computer. Can anyone chime in on that end of things?
Anyone got a Xoom? The wife is wanting her own computer but i want something that is super easy to travel with basic abilities. I figure with it tethered to the phone i should be able to do most basic computing needs easily. _________________ #3 LIAR

Rooting is exactly what it sounds like, gaining root access to the phone. Android is basically a Linux OS. The big advantages are:
gaining access to the system directory (remove crapware apps, backup installed apps)
gaining access to the boot loader (allowing you to flash a new rom or back up your current image)
run root requiring apps (including titanium backup to backup your data to your sd card, tether apps, http://www.appbrain.com/search?q=root)
Overclocking (haven't tried this) or changing the drive format to a non-blocking format (only needed for Samsung devices, I think)
