And hello to the new kid on the block, just bought my first charcoal grill I’ve always been a gasser griller but thought I would give this a try, Man oh Man, this Weber 22.5 is nice, I wanted the 27 but they didn’t have one in stock, but for my first cook on charcoal I could not be happier.

Tried out some yard bird parts for the first cook, I really like the way the grill browned the skin, and I put in a chunk of hickory just to see, worked pretty well.

Tell next time

Congrats!

It hurts a little at first but once you're in it feels pretty good. Laughing

Don't look back! Wink

I hope you either bought a Weber Chimney or have a weed burner to get your coals going. I think that is the most off-putting thing about converting gasser folks over to charcoal or wood. Most gasser people say they love the ability to cook on a whim with little notice. I personally use a weed burner, but I have a chimney as well and I can have my pit ready to cook on in very little time. It's really not much longer at all compared to a gasser and the payoff is tremendous!

Good luck!

I have two cheap-O chimneys I use for my smoker and I bought a new Weber chimney with the grill, one thing I like about starting the charcoal is it gives you more time to drink BEER! Very Happy

232mako, congrats on the new Kettle. Very Happy The only problem I would have is explaining to Debbie is how I dropped of the old gasser and ended with the lawnmower and two bay sink. Laughing

Laughing Very Happy Nothing better than one stop shopping, lawn & garden and kitchen supplies and it’s free too. I have pulled out a few things myself, found some S/S freezer racks one time and made a cooking rack for my first smoker.

Mako,

I'm with you.......Always wanted a OTG, and finally broke down last year. I was so impressed by it that I also bought a used Weber Performer off of Craigs List. The beauty of that is that it has a built in propane lighter that makes lighting easier than even a chimney.

Sadly, my Charbroil commercial is about ready for the scrap heap....she's been a good girl.

Cheers,
Ed
