Everyone one at the Jack had a great time, despite some challenging rain, rivers under you pit and wind. It was incredible to see everyone gatthered. The friendships, mixed with a little smack talk and Gentleman Jack made it fun.

But on a serious side, I want you to know a little about Scottie (Grand Champ) and his family.

Scottie lost his wife to cancer, leaving two young children for Scottie to raise. He began a foundation to assist Cancer Research and help families affected by the tragic loss that cancer creates.

On Friday, Scottie was notified his father passed away from Cancer. Of course he was definately devistated. His father wanted him to cook the Jack despite how ill his father was.

There was not a team who did not offer to help Scottie in any way they could, and the best way was with prayers and hugs.

When Scottie (Cancersuckschicago.com) was pronounced Grand Champion, there was not a dry eye in the house.

It would be incredible if the Smoke Ring members made contributions to his foundation to honor the champion cook and memorialize the loss of his father. Even you have not had the great privilege of know Scottie, he is part of our BBQ family. Go to

www.CancerSucksChicago.com
or
www.CorlissFoundation.com

to make a donation.

I am certain that some believe they have never seen a miracle or prayers answered. Well maybe you just did realize what you saw.

Garry, I wondered that myself. I worked at the CBJ class on Friday and Friday after the dinner, and Saturday before the judging, I helped an internet media team with storylines.

Did not spend much time in the judging area, but hung with teams.
It was a great time.

Great story Merl- thanks for sharing it.

Sounds like Scottie is truly an inspiration to all that have the pleasure to know him, and that now have the chance to at least know of him! Very Happy

I will send in a donation myself when I get back home!
