Everyone,
I need to know which unit is the best system, the BBQ Guru or the Stoker?
This is for my church as they have 2 campuses and 2 separate grills. They have a Lang 48 mobile and a Bubba Grill 330 or 500 (not really sure as it is BIG).
They want to get a system that could be used on either smoker. As one is definitely bigger than the other one.
Any ideas or helpful info would be appreciated.
Thanks,

I did a ton of research on temp controllers before I purchased a Stoker. From what I gather their both good units, however I went with the Stoker because it seems endless with what you can do with it as far as upgrades. You are able to get online and update it with the latest versions. I just got mine and haven't toyed with the hi tech side of it yet.
I got my Stoker with a 25cfm fan but only got to play with it for a couple hours on my stick burner before the fan quit working. I called Rocks and they're sending me a new fan right out. I don't believe this a common problem as I've not heard of others having this. What little I did get to play with it though it was awesome. Held my temp perfect. Another thing to consider is fan size. I may be mistaken but I'm not sure if the Guru has larger fan sizes. With my stick burner I had to have the larger fan.
Hope that helps a little. |

I'm in a toss up as both systems offer the 25cfm as the largest available. my only concern is that I can use dual fans with one controller via a fan splitter with the Guru and I'm not so sure I can do that with a Stoker.
I have a Lang 48 and the big Bubba Grill so I'm going with the biggest fan (25cfm) as I believe that bigger is better.
Do you know if you can use a fan splitter with the Stoker?
I really do like the unlimited ability of the Stoker with updates and such as I am sort of a techie.

I love the Stoker. I use it to run two pits with temo/fan and also another 4-6 temp probes for cooking. The ability to use a 3-wire connector for all the probes and the wireless feature is second to none! _________________ SEERious Smoke BBQ Team

I own a Stoker and have used a Guru. Both units had 25cfm fan. The stoker moves more air and does a better job for me on my stick burner. I use it for the over night portions of my cook so I can get a little sleep. Once I'm up I go back to stick and run the pit manually.
I'm lovin the stoker. I'm a computer geek and the tech stuff is way cool!!!

I bought the Guru when I bought my Backwoods Competitor. I love it. BUT, I think I would have been happier with the Stoker cause I am a computer geek. _________________ Backwoods Competitor

if you are a tech guy go with a stoker if you just want to hold a temp and an alarm that tells you when your stuff is done or needs to be refueled go with a guru _________________ Club Disco

| I've looked into both and the stoker appears to be 10X the unit that the guru is.....interms of technology. |

There is also 3rd party software available for the stoker at the Weber bullet site, you can graph your cook temps and add ramp modes, and all sorts of other stuff like having it send you text messages and e-mails for parameters being breached, or on a timed schedule.
The stoker friggin rocks if you like connectability and being able to graph, save, and alter parameters from remote locations through the web.
Did I mention the stoker is infinitely expandable to run numerous pits from the same unit?> _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |
