Congratulations to Mike, Christie and family upon winning the BBQ on the Rievewalk in Jenks, Oklahoma. Mike served as the host team, and did so much to insure the succeess of this first time contest.
Mike helped mark the area, teams locate their areas, help with electrical problems and so much more. Susan the organizer cried when she received the results.
This is a great end to the beginning of next year. Of course, Mike and Christie are one their way to the Jack Daniels where they appear to be on their game.
Best luck at the Jack. _________________ Yours in BBQ

Yep, just like Merl said--Mike worked his butt off to make this one a success out of the gate! I was 'freelancing' with a team that was set up next to Mike and Company so I saw first hand how busy he was--and it wasn't working on his stuff I can tell you that.
Congrats and good luck at the JD. Go show 'em again how it's done down here!! |

Thanks guys, great event for a first time contest, with just a few bumps in the road. I think I wore a path out to that mechanical room friday night trying to keep the power going.
Brad was good to see you out at a contest again, you need to get out more.
Karl, I was so beat by the time that front blew through, I decided to stick it out. Besides, I got plenty of built-in insulation to keep me warm.
Let's hope the luck continues next week. _________________ Mike

Great job Mike! Congrats! I know you really worked your butt off cuz it was almost impossible to catch you on Friday since you were running around keeping things going.
Good luck to you and Christie at the JD! _________________ Steve

I'm still amazed that Mike even had time to cook, with all the trouble-shooting he was doing through the whole competition. You and Christie did a wonderful job at both, Mike - thank you for all your work, and congrats on the GC! We'll be watching the Jack results closely.
Dale, I was thrilled to see you walking back and forth to the stage so many times - and you said that this was only your 2nd comp? Great job!
I always enjoy getting to put faces to the names that I see electronically, especially those who live close to us. Oklahoma smokeringers, we'll need to all get together and celebrate Mike and Christie's triumphant return from the Jack!

Thanks Keri, I really felt tlike this one was a "good karma" win. As much time as I spent working on other things I was worried about having time to fuss over my Q, which might have helped....less opportunity for operator error.
Some of the young folk may not go for the karma thing, but when your a Smokedelic, you gotta rely on all the karma and mojo you can find! Maybe I can stop along the highway and help change a few flats on the way to Lynchburg this week? _________________ Mike

If what your saying is true then you should do very well at the Jack. I am hoping you did not use up all your Karma with this last win. I think you should find a Mission on the way down to the Jack and help serve lunch if your feeling you could be low on the Karma... You could even bring some food with ya to hand out if ya want to be sure your good and topped up...
I wont wish ya luck Mike as I dont think you need it. Luck is for those that dont stand a chance but want something to feel good about as they compete. I will tell ya to relax and enjoy the event, do your best cause after all its up to the judges. Heres hoping ya hear your name more than a couple times. _________________ Chargriller Akorn

Congratulations Mike, Christie, and family! OUTSTANDING!
After talking with you at the Royal I knew you were just starting back to back competitions, but I didn't know you were hosting Jenks. You guys are awesome to ensure a great competition for all and then cook on top of that. Compared to Jenks the Jack should be relaxing
Wish all of you well and look forward to hearing the results. _________________ Tom
