I had gotten my hands on a pile of ribeye's that were ok, not terribly tender - not bad, just not good.....what to do?!
With 2 feet of snow on its way and me most likely not seeing my house for a day or two as I will be out plowing it, not sure if restaurants or even fast food joints will be open.....ROAD STEW and BREADS!
Sorry I didnt take pics as I went as I thought it wasnt worthy, but here's what I did

I trimmed the ribeye's and rendered the fat from them [ dog gets the fried trimmings]
Added a little beef lard from a brisket smoke.
Fried cubed ribeyes dusted in seasoned flour [ seasoned with Oak Ridge Beef rub]
Once almost well browned I added a diced onion and 2 stalks celery diced.
Once browned / softened I deglazed with a splash or red wine vinegar and cooked it off - added about 2 cups of this mornings cold coffee [ helps keep it dark and doesnt taste like coffee once done]Added mushrooms and carrots - stewed for 20 Min.
Added cubed potatoes and covered for 45 min. Added corn starch slurry with some au jus paste and simmered until buns were done.

Also made some large dinner buns while making stew -

Round 1 was dinner tonight - test run Wink Yea, I had 2 bowls....

Leftovers will get warmed at midnight and go in cooler for blizzard breakfast!

Stay warm out there - sounds like a lot of the mountains and midwest are getting hammered over the next couple days
These Ribeye's are fantastic as stew - probably should have eaten it sooner, but flavor is fantastic!

Lookin good there Tony.........Yeah, we're battening down the hatches here for up to 20". We'll see about that, but I'm planning on working from home for the next couple days. Driving in a whiteout is not on my bucket list! Shocked

Stay safe...

Ed

Looks like a good plan for the BLAH steaks! With the weather you folks are having!

Hmm, stew sounds like a good idea! We're at a balmy 49° here now, but expect freezing rain, ice, and snow tomorrow morning. Temps in the 20's until Friday...

I've been hankering for some stew. Yours looks fantastic, sounds like a good way to go.

We caught a break on the white stuff (only 6"), but we're gonna be hammered with sub-zero highs along with some stout wind thru Friday.

I bet you can use a co-driver in that plow of yours so be sure to put me in a heaping mess of that stuff. Man that looks good. We're at 5° right now and some of that would feel real good...

Awesome looking stew indeed.. We have made stews at the rant using prime rib and it always turns out amazing..

We have just come out of a deep freeze up here and are heading into a foot of snow according to the weather man.. I think a nice pot of stew is in order.

Thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks for all the replies Guy's n Gals! For some reason I wasnt getting informed anyone had responded to the thread.....I am happy to see such nice reviews!!
I've been out plowing all night, now I'm TRYING to sleep until the blizzard hits somewhere around sun down....Got about 6" overnight, lake effect machine is still dumping on us right now but lots are clear enough for people to drive on. Were expecting another 1 1/2 feet tonight with 55 mph winds - then we'll see if the lake effect starts again[?] I know 1/3 rd of the country is getting something and am praying for safety for all!! Dont leave the house unless you MUST! 2 A.M. this morning I found the first of many cars in the ditch....and we only had about 3" as of then... Rolling Eyes
Only 1 big bowl of stew left - gonna save it for when the storm is all over - enjoy it with a couple sleeping pills sometime tomorrow and sleep 'til Saturday Shocked Laughing
To all you plow drivers - keep 'er rubber side down and tween the big piles! The rest of you, make some stew - enjoy the weather in front of a nice fire or from your warm easy chair - I dont wanna have to pull ya out a the ditch and get all wet and cold myself....lol !! Confused

If I may also add, IF you MUST go out, DON'T CROWD THE PLOW!!! These folks work in nasty weather and in POOR VISIBILITY. Give them a wide berth, FOR THEIR SAFETY AND YOURS.
