Travis, I have followed you and your smokers for over a year now. I am 25 years old and have decided to start my catering/vending business. The first cooker that popped into my head was your DPP cookers. I hopped on here and found this thread, I was heart broken, then you posted the reply right above this one and I saw the ray of light. Please keep us up to date and let me know when you open your doors again. I shall be travelling from Bama to pick mine up.

Very good approach Travis. Don't give up quality for quantity, even if that means slowing production down and having people wait a little longer.

Travis,
I love the design of your pits and was starting to save up for one. If you're thinking of starting up again, I'll go on saving for it.

I don't weld, have never built a pit, and really don't want to compromise on design. I want a Diamond Plate behind my '64 Studebaker!

I wish you the best of luck getting started again.

My Fat 50 is great. It has brought a lot of fun to a lot of people. Great design. Go for it Travis and, yes, keep that quality up!

P.S. Howdy Florida Boy - I think you and I stopped posting at about the same time. Great to see you back.

All I can say is that when I get my money bucket in order, I was/am hoping to order a fat 50. I have done my research, and it looks best for what I intend to do.

The Fat 50 gives you the best bang for the buck that I have seen for larger cooks. They also look awesome and make an impression on guests at any event. As an added bonus they tow and back wonderfully. Hope Travis starts fabricating again. He is a great guy with phenomenal customer service.

Yeah glad everybody wishes Travis well and all that, but my pit I bought from him had some flaws and he gave me the run around for a year about making it right. Then once he decided to get out of the business he kind of made it right but lied to me about the rest of the deal and now wont return texts, or emails. Im not looking for sympathy as I learned a hard lesson that when you deal over the internet sometimes you get screwed so now Im a bit wiser. To Travis I say thanks for the screw buddy...you reap what you sew. Also I have saved all the pics and emails between he and I so there is no disputing this. Im not looking for anyone to take my side as I know everyone will be favorable to him and I didnt want to even post this, but there it is. Peace>

Cayenneman,
Sorry you had a bad experience. I don't know the nature of your problem(s) with your unit... is there anything a fellow Fat 50 owner could help you out with? Hate to see you permanently bummed out about something.

I agree with Cayenneman's evaluation. My DPP experience was poor at best. Buisness failure usually has some sort of real basis.

I have a DPP Big 40 that i bought used. I have modified it by adding a second cooking grate, chrome stacks etc.
I have learned how to use it, how it cooks & why it cooks the way it cooks.... at least that`s what i thought.

Took me a few years to figure out that its the cook not the cooker.

I used to own a Fat-50 and loved it.
I sold it because it was just too big for my needs. Put a 100 pounds of meat on it and it was still empty. Shocked
One of these days I'll get another when the need arises.
Hope to see you back in business Travis.

When we shut the smoker shop down a couple of years, economy had just gotten to tough to continue. Seems like things have settled down a little and well, seriously considering firing up again. We've relocated to the DFW area, which would make finding suppliers easier... Maybe its just a calling I can't get away from. Would really like for everyone to share there thoughts.. Anyone out there been dreaming of a Diamond Plate Smoker??

Travis, i am very interested. I was pretty close to making a purchase prior to you closing the doors. Are you planning to re-launch the website with pics, etc? Any changes to the original design?
