Ok first off, thanks KAM, Wreckless, ckone, roscoe1960, BRBBQ, feldon30, mtnside,Mr Tony's BBQ , Soapm, Cat797, ua_piper, biker.chef and BBQMAN, You guys have made my day! I don't think it would have come out half as good without the info I've learned from here so I'm stoked you all dig it! So far I've done a couple of dry runs to see what the temps are doing, got it within about 2-3°C from one side to the other using the tuning plates and stayed around 100-110°C for about 4 hours so I reckon next weekend I'll throw some ribs on see what she's made of! So yeah any suggestions/questions/comments would be appreciated!
Cheers Sam.

what diameter tanks did you use? |
Thanks mate it's a holden commodore ute, they rebadge the sedans and sell them as Pontiacs in the states, use 'em for cop cars I think. The tanks are 12". Top ones about 42" long and the bottom about 32" |

I really like the mushroom stacks, look like a Van de Graaff generator. |
Well I do believe you've just named it! From now on it's known as the Van de Graaff Smoke Generator!! Hopefully instead of hair it will make tastebuds stand on end |

Why no stainless shelves (or ATP)? |
Thanks BBQMAN, gotta give most of the credit to my old man for that, he did the majority of the welding. As for shelves, man apart from the wheels and latches, everything was either offcuts or leftovers from something else apart from the tanks which we get for nothing anyhow, so no s/steel sheets= no shelves . And what's ATP? Hope it's not Aussie treated pine or I'm gonna feel like a goose! |

Aluminum Tread Plate Sam!
Best of luck with the cooking.
A small bed of lump with a few small splits of hardwood should be all it takes to reach the proper temps. _________________ BBQMAN
