I'm curious how they will get all of those big rigs down to the jogging trail. There must be a road that I'm not familiar with that leads down there.

I think I can see how you'd get one or two down there using the drive on the south end, but what I DON'T see is how, once a few teams get set up, anyone else is going to get PAST them to set up in a site further down, unless first team in goes all the way down to the end and they fill in in that manner. We'll have our little 6x10 cargo trailer to work out of along with the Fat 50, so I guess we'll just see Friday morning how it works out and how snug a fit it is.

If someone wants to take a fishing rod and a can of worms, I'll take my cast iron, cornmeal, and Crisco... mmmmm - fried crappie for breakfast!

just went down to check out the site and I can see how you could get a rig down there but as it has been stated before, once a couple guys get set up that may be it.

Gonna be next to impossible to keep a vehicle on the cook site which will make it tougher.

The cook sites are only 20'x20', which IMO makes it pretty tight. Also makes it a little cozy with the teams next to you too.

Well, we haven't before, but when we did the big test/rehearsal cook a couple of week ago (fed about 40 plus lots of leftovers), we tried taking it in 2-hour shifts, and it actually worked pretty well. He babysat the cooker from 10-12 while I slept, I trimmed ribs and chicken and did misc from 12-2:30 while he slept, I slept while he babysat and put ribs on at 4:30, then he slept until 6:30 or so while I foiled a few things and then enjoyed the sunrise. Worked out pretty well. I'm hoping the little cargo trailer can stay on the site with us, and we'll just put the reclining folding chair in there and the designated sleeper can hole up and hide from the world for a while. We'll see how it works out in "real life".

3GS won't be participating in this one--the guys had a cooking class scheduled for Friday night that has been on the calendar for quite awhile. I'll be there cooking with another buddy of mine and some of his friends. We're the Meat Puppets, a.k.a. the Waste Managment team.

Looking forward to seeing you guys again. It's gonna be strange trying to keep WARM at a competition--LOL!!

Attn my BBQ friends! The reports of me being out of town during the Jenks contest have proven to be incorrect.

Thanks to Contenental Airlines, I was able to depart OKC this morning and arrive back in OKC this afternoon. Mad All that without ever leaving the ground. I did get to see a lot of the nice grassy areas around the runways. Rolling Eyes

So, it looks like Lee Ann and I will be in Oklahoma this coming weekend. We are thinking about booking a room in Tulsa and hanging out at the competition. We are pretty sure our Nissan truck will manage to get us to Tulsa without any "unexpected delays". Very Happy

If you have some room around your site and don't mind the company, let me know. We might even bring some treats.

Jay & Lee Ann

You know how to find us Jay and you and Lee Ann are always welcome. There's a Best Western at the Jenks Aquarium across the street thats an easy walk from the contest site.

Hey, Jay, it's good that you're going to get to make it after all. You can come say hi to Junior's big sister! I found crawfish, so the etouffee is on!

Well, the day is dawning on my third-ever KCBS (and first-ever NON Art of BBQ) competition, and a beautiful two days looms - clear, hi 71 today, 65 tomorrow. No rain. No wind. I'm calm. I'm organized (mostly). I know what I'm going to do, I know how I'm going to do it, and I know when I'm going to do it (more or less, depending on the meats). I slept like a rock last night, and for once I DIDN'T dream of all the little details that could go wrong. Yep, yep, it's going to be a good weekend - I can feel it. (Now that doesn't necessarily mean that all the JUDGING is going to go my way, just that it's going to be a great weekend!)

Good luck to all whom we'll be seeing there, and be careful on your drive in!
