Whats the bias against the LED lights? I just swapped out the incandescent for LED at my place for the inside due to fire hazard concerns.
Outside, above the cooker I have the big honking bright Christmas lights, I have them strung up so it looks like a used car lot out there. Right along with Chili-Pepper lights, Airstream trailer lights, Shotgun shell lights, and I plan to add lights in the shape of a Labrador retrievers head too. We're striving for that tacky-shacky look and we almost got it.
Out by JAllens, I was thinking those huge round paper ball lanterns with a a light source inside. But I doubt he has a Pier-1 Imports nearby to get them from. Or they might even be made by him! _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

Personally, I just don't find their blue/white tint appealing to the eye. Their more efficient and last longer, but just look ugly to me. That's all.
I to like your idea about the geisha lanterns though...

Got a new all night guard named Mars in. Another pipsqueak. I've got him "one-eyeing" the front door and painting the downstairs bathroom red. The other two will have to pick from green and yellow, unless I really like the red.
Then they'll be red too. He gets $4/bathroom.
Another guy came in and said he wanted the J-Lo room for a Mary Kay presentation. They wouldn't be eating or drinking anything.
I said it would be 1000som ($25)
He said. "WTF."
I told him wtf?, and gave him a business card. It's a nice room and we only require people to spend $8 each c.o.b.
It's important for me to keep those Mary Kay people as far from Mrs. JAllen as possible, or have them at least eat some bbq. _________________ Reverse flow Sterno can

But Ondorush Toktonasyrov, one of those who led last year's protests that toppled President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, scoffed at the ritual as "a sign of backward mentality."
"Deputies have no idea about parliamentary culture," he told Reuters. "This is an official building where the president works, and the parliament slaughters rams!"
My comment: To avoid the backward mentality and move into the future, they should come and have this job done professionally at Smokie's Bar-B-Q.
I can fit at least two of those rams in our smoker. _________________ Reverse flow Sterno can

True dat. Toilet #1 in the basement is red now and almost finished.
Toilet #2, the men's upstairs and outside is getting the finishing green touches now by Mars.
I don't have the key to open the ladies' so that will have to wait. I've only got yellow and blue left...maybe I get some pink tomorrow. _________________ Reverse flow Sterno can

I was at 'the dacha' today. I took some photos as it brought back memories of the exhaustion episode. Really powerful. For those of you who read the post that SoEzzy let stand, I'd be very happy to hear how the photos compare to what you imagined as you read it. Thanks, JAllen. _________________ Reverse flow Sterno can

from page about 31 of this thread. I'm remembering the text and adding...
...the dacha is a white one with a wire gate...vegetables in the cellar
up the stairs and in the kitchen...fashioned hot plate to the right...
...at the back of the kitchen some steep stairs leading up to the attic...
One of the appeals about living out here is that often you feel like you're living back in time...in the 1940s...
Dachas, "summer houses" are usually simple, and the feel of more than half a century ago feels interestingly good.
tbc if there's interest. _________________ Reverse flow Sterno can

Well, alrighty then...
...to the right is a wood stove...
u-turn and you're in the living room...
...and another left and you're in the small bedroom with the bananna bed...
...JAllen get some sleep and when you wake up, go out and cut some of that apricot...
...I walked past the apricot...past the outhouse into the orchard...
...
Well, that's about all I snapped. I'm sure it's how you imagined it. Man that was a ride. _________________ Reverse flow Sterno can

I'll see if I have any pictures to share, I will post some if I do. The GF was originally against my plans outside, but once she saw the conglomeration of lights, she liked it too.
As per the Dacha, if it had running water and the ceramic thrones that typically go along with it, I could see living there for three seasons each year. But that is quite a hike to the restaurant from what I understand. And having a new business, and the lack of quality labor to draw from, I fully understand your need to be very close by. _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

Barmalay's owner, Askar was in today trying to sell us a bunch of stuff we don't need. He's lost 1/3 of his weight since the last time I saw him. He was hunched over and could barley walk.
Stomach cancer and he's closing Barmalay.
I just bought $50 worth of stuff we don't really need. _________________ Reverse flow Sterno can

I just came from a month in the Philippines and what you're showing would be an upgrade from some of the living in distant provinces. For one you have electricity and a fridge. I met people that lived in grass huts made of bamboo and being bamboo made was like having a mansion compared to some.
I witnessed a people who can make the most out of nothing. It was very humbling. Nothing was wasted and they don't miss anything they never had. They used leaves for napkins and to spread sauce on the little meat we had and they shared from each others gardens with no tally of who took the most. There was a single spicket in the house with running water which was used for all water needs.
Primitive by my standards but I can say this, I felt no stress while I was there. I didn't need my CPAP machine or my night guard and I slept wonderfully. Never seen a people so happy having only the basic necessities... |

Very true but only because they haven't known anything different. Bringing them to the US would be very dramatic and traumatic for most of them and they couldn't WAIT to get back to their own familiar surroundings. _________________ Where rumors end and legend lives forever... |

4/27 Last night, complete slam. Big tables, big checks, polite customers willing to wait for the madman coming out of the smoker fresh.
First night in the work-in-progress outdoor area. Lighting is pretty cool, chairs are okay and we sold three kegs, filling pitchers all evening long.
Expats and locals. People having to wait almost 90 minutes and then leaving nice tips on top of our 10 percent service charge was a bit unexpected.
People commenting on the smell of fresh-cut oak and apricot in the hall and outside.
This morning we're regrouping and hoping we can find a waitress or two. _________________ Reverse flow Sterno can

Goes to show what's important in life and what is not important.
Where's my Hummer and McMansion and crushing debt load? Yikes.
