Ya just gotta love the iPhone's. I hear you can even make phone calls with them too.

I am guilty, I used my iphone to monitor a cook happening in my Stumps with the Stoker, a wireless router, and my iPhone at a catered event.

Thanks for the info...just got this back from them after I asked about the ability to monitor chamber temps like the ET-73 I had, before I smashed it in to a ton of pieces about two weeks ago...mine was a fail...of epic proportions.

Hi Phillip,

Thank you for your email, it was a pleasure to read. You are thinking along the same lines we are. We will have an ambient air reader by 2nd quarter of this year. A lot of customers have written in about how this feature would really make their lives easier. Great suggestion regarding an alert when the temp in the chamber drops. I will pass your email along to our designers and of course our CEO.

Please stay in touch and Happy Cooking!

Neat toy that I hope to have soon!

No one forced you to buy a Fieldpiece right? Nice to see you are still bringing old things up....some things never change... I guess we can't have our own opinions on here unless it is the same as your opinion...

Cheers...

You can have your opinions but why do you seem so shocked that it had an epic fail. Question Question

So what’s your honest opinion on them now? You gonna drop another $70 for the new 732????

FWIW the reviews I have read on the IPhone version is riddle with bugs and glitches and I am betting that the probe is still gonna be the weak link.

Remmy,
I hope the new gadget works and they start making one for my Droid. Very Happy

But, I kinda lost faith in it when they said it was a Bluetooth device Crying or Very sad , IMHO Bluetooth ranges are usually smaller than they are advertised to be and have trouble with obstacles. The Bluetooth transmit range they advertise is well within BT's specifications, some transmit and receive data up to 100 meters. It’s just that they usually don’t.

I've never gone 100 meters from my phone with my BT headset. In fact, I don't think I've gone 30 meters from my phone without regretting it.

For 100 bucks, I would have expected them to put a wifi antenna in there too. Then it could bounce the signal to devices farther away, send an alert email etc to the phone etc.

From what I read that was the biggest complaint with loosing connection with the BT or even conecting at all.

Cheers

ggarner,

Great Idea bro! Very Happy I was thinking the same thing.
They should make one of these things connect to your wireless home network and get rid of the Bluetooth all together! Rolling Eyes

Then you could use your phone or pc to monitor your temps with an application from anywhere. The technology is already in use... Why not!

You could call the wife and have her make adjustments to the cooker. Laughing

I would spend $200 for a device like that! Wink

The reason I suggested it is that I have a friend who works in the mobile antenna world and the cost of the parts is a joke. If I remember right, he told me that they can buy a GPS for about $2-3 and a wifi is in that same range. maybe 10 bucks? He worked with Qualcomm on their new asset tracking box, that has a gps, accelerometer, wifi, CDMA, gsm, and old school cell antennas all in 1. All their money went into board design so that the different antennas didnt interfere with one another, and making it so complicated to build that the Chinese cant easily rip it off like they do everything else.

If they can make a printer wifi compatible, I dont see this being a big jump, probably more of a step backwards. If someone wanted to build it, I could see it easily being done. For $200 bucks, I would expect it to read the temps, and maintain cooker temp like some of the other devices do. Be controlled by a laptop, desktop, or cell phone app. Biggest problem is that all the circuit board manufacturers dont want to do an order of less that 10,000 and even at 2-3 bucks a pop that more money than I have! HAHA

Hell, for 200 bucks, I might head down to radio shack and build one myself! HAHA

You were doing ok until you got to that thought. Have you been in a Radio Shack store lately? You'd be lucky to find the parts to make just the power cord.

In fact, the 'Shacks near me have become not much more than a glorified cell phone store. As a going concern, I don't see Radio Shack hanging on much longer...

Cheers

Day_Tripper: Thanks for the info! I dont think I have actually been in a radio shack in probably 12-14 years. The last time I went in one was to buy a CB radio for my truck when I was in high school! HAHA

Well then I guess online retailers would be the way to go. I guess no one really buys small electronics and all the goodies like they used to see so they have had to move where they thought the market was.

I think it also has to do with state of the art electronics getting smaller and smaller that it is almost impossible to fix things and have essentially become disposable.

Cheers
