I use the one that is roughly quart size. On the WSM the fire burns according to how I have the vents open. |
I use the large in my whiskey barrel, but I use the smaller quart size in wsm. |
Good deal, the smaller seems perfect for the WSM. |

Soapm,it all depends what Im cooking, some things I only like a light smoke on and that is why just a couple blocks,if If Im cooking butts and briskets there would be more. When cooking small items you can overpower them with smoke, alot of people do not like that. _________________ Horizon Offset (Marshall RD Special)

The coals do burn outward, kam. Conventional wisdom would also say that they burn upwards...the outward burn ignites the bottom coals and allows the heat to burn the top coals faster. We control this with air flow, I know.
It is simply another method to achieve the same goal.
Either way, you're banking the fire like many have been doing for decades (many decades)...Mr. Minion popularized this classic method by use and popularity of the internet...welcome to the electronic age. _________________ Somewhere in Kenya...a village is missing their idiot. |

This is true Pit Boss, they both achieve the same goal when using Briquettes,I usually use lump for everything and the minion method will not work as well as the can method. When you dump lit coals on top of lump the small pieces will trickle down through the voids in the lump igniting things to quickly,I don't seem to get that problem with the out and upward burn when my coals start in the center as shown.
My pictures show briquettes but I prefere using 100% natural lump for everything. _________________ Horizon Offset (Marshall RD Special)
