Anyone sending in a tape? It would be awesome but they own you. I get too self conscious on tape.
http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/show_nf_vote/text/0,,FOOD_20356_51832,00.html
Check out this snip: ...render applicant exclusive to Food Network for a pre-determined period of time (meaning that applicant would not, among other limitations, be able to appear on any other broadcast or cable television programming or make public appearances or publish a cookbook without Food Network's express written permission in each circumstance); (ii) give Food Network the option, at Food Network's sole election...
This really tops it off
28. Upon Producer's request, all Semi-Finalists, Finalists, and The Next Food Network Star must agree to sign any additional releases or authorizations that Producer, in its sole discretion, deems necessary.
WOW. I'd probably still do it if I thought I could pull it off. _________________ D. Tillery

I dont think that I have any where near the personality or the kitchen chops to get even a sniff at the top spot...all I really know how to make is paula dean type stuff and they already got one of her...
oh and speaking of paula dean...my wife made this observation.....It is funny how everyone thinks that paula dean is so great and crazy and the whole butter thing is just marvelous, but in Georgia she is a dime a dozen... |

Besides, they'd never let one of us real Q-dogs on that network, anyway. It would make Bobby Flay look bad... _________________ Leading the quest to abolish propane from Que'dom...

Could you imagine a 20 hour episode of watching a brisket in the pit?? Sort of like watching grass grow. _________________ Tom

I agree with the DAWG, Paula Deen is famous for the same cooking style that our mothers and grandmothers have cooked all along. I do enjoy watching her and admire her determination and success.
Some other earlier comments about the controling terms of the contract. I don't blame the FoodTV people for trying to protect their investments and also to fully expoit them if they are marketable.
The whole TV show thing sounds neat, I'm not to fond of the reality style format to determine a winner. I think I have a look that is better suited for radio though _________________ Big Tom

I"d love to spend a little quality time watching some of the great pits, like the DPP or that neat new Red pit in action.
I've learned quite a few things by watching the Food channel, I'd love to see an actual BBQ, the right way, not the Flay way. |

Bobby Flay is more of a grill guy, guys! I agree, he should promote more true BBQ!
That being said, I would sure jump at the chance to cook with him anytime! While I might be able to show him a thing or two about BBQ, I'm sure i could learn a lot from someone with his experience!
I've said it before- With a number of VERY successful restaraunts, multiple TV shows, and all the rest I highly doubt he losses sleep over "looking bad"! _________________ BBQMAN

Actually the first winner, Guy is part of a competition Q team, guess that makes him a Q guy. |

The way I read that contract, it could preclude you from doing BBQ competitions if you won. Small price to pay, I guess. It would definitely keep Alien from publishing his book.
I still might send in a tape and roll the dice. Heck, I'm only 2 hrs from NY City. _________________ D. Tillery

| Watching Bobby Flay last month was what inspired me to dust off the ECB and try another butt - of course I watched him mix sauce in with the meat and ended up with pureed baby food, too! Besides, while I've got nothing against peppers (we grow sweet bananas, bells and habaneros every year), I don't want them in every frickin dish... Same with Emeril and his wunder-powder. All in all, I'd rather watch Alton - |
