|
|
I am starting on my 1st uds build, and I have a question concerning the inside of the drum. It appears to be painted on the inside, and not a liner. I plan on having a hot, long fire in it and see how much will come off. Whatever is left, I'm just going to leave.
PS- I have attempted to post a picture of the drum, but I don't seem to be able to. [img][/img] |

| My question is will it be ok to just leave what doesn't come off inside the drum? I have read on here where a lot of people are suggesting sandblasting- but is it really necessary to remove every piece of paint inside the drum? |

| IMO depends on the type of paint, and since you can't ever really know for sure, it's better to be safe than sorry. |

There has been much discussion on here about that. Some will say to remove it all.
My opinion is: If it won't burn off after filling with wood and doing the initial burn out it won't burn off when cooking. My guess is that I burnt mine out at 900+?? But that is just my opinion. Maybe it is killing me slowly, but so far so good. _________________ Kill a cow, Start a fire ...

+1 and coated with a good layer of seasoning to boot.

| if you build a hot fire all the paint should burn off. a weedburner is pretty handy for this too. i think sandblasting the inside is a little overkill. |
